We drove from Iowa to West Point, NY in one day.

I think the obvious point we can take from this conversation is that this country is too big

It’s also a dumb argument and I could’ve just dropped it hahaha. But yes I was only trying to say the tolls aren’t that bad and neither is the traffic if you know which routes to take during rush hour (sometimes I did drive the Philly way instead of the south Jersey way just for variety of scenery, if it’s not peak traffic time).

  4. Flight prices are wild right now. My business trip to Nashville cost 800 round trip and that was with a connection.

Before the pandemic I could fly to Vegas for like 200 round trip nonstop and flights in October are 600-700 round trip nonstop. Hope they come down.

As someone who did the DC->Cedar Falls drive like 8 different times in one day during the padnemic....yeesh at having to drive the entirely northern route the whole way

And yet oddly, Southwest had a ton of cheap flights in Oct/Nov (like 40% off) they were just pushing, and my flight from BWI->Iowa is cheaper than it usually was pre-pandemic.

Vegas used to always be a dirt cheap flight for me to do all the Southwest national parks, but, I bet a ton of people are hitting tourist destinations now after 2yrs of missing them

Longest drive I ever did at once was Philly to Jacksonville at the end of my first tour.

I used to speed a lot and it still took me almost 12 hours. I was pissed off driving through South Carolina I remember lol

    wanna go for a ryyyde

driving>over anything else always unless were talking cross country.

my folks live just outside of providence so i do the 95 marathon from philly regularly. when you factor in getting thru or around nyc and how much connecticut traffics fucking blows it probably takes about the same amount of time as flying would w all the airport shit. about 6 to 7 hours. cant be bothered to do the math but driving that is at least a bit cheaper in my head and infinitely less hassle. i hate flying so much and theres a corporate conspiracy at philly airport to cancel every flight i book anyway

All my driving experience is in the southeast and northeast. I’ve driven all over both, got a memorable glimpse of everything from New Orleans to Nashville to West Virginia to Pittsburgh to Boston and down to Miami. And I’ve ridden a bus to Buffalo / Niagara Falls as well, through central PA and upstate NY.

But only ever been to the Midwest (Minneapolis) twice, the PNW twice (Seattle / Nelson BC.) and the southwest / middle America…. never.

Most those trips I took planes and transit. But I did ride in a car from Spokane airport through northern Idaho into eastern British Columbia on the Nelson trip though. I’ve ridden in a car living in Hawaii as a kid too. Both were two of my most beautiful car experiences ever.

And my first time in Europe I got to use a bus as my main transportation through much of coastal / countryside Italy and France. also took the ferry to England. That bus driver, a Belgian man named Guy, was the most incredible driver I’ve ever seen in my life. Second time to Europe I mostly took trains through the Netherlands and Belgium.

We did the uh, Seattle to Tampa drive in the height of the pandemic and that middle part was a whole lot of hell. Can't wait to do it again

It was a brutal drive. The worst part of the trip back I was sick the entire time. Puking in a bucket while driving is not recommended.

Phillipines to DC was 18 total hours of flying (4.5 from Manilla->Tokyo, then like 12.5 from Tokyo->DC). There's something absolutely wild about finishing 3 movies, taking a 3hr nap, and STILL having a 5hr, cross-country equivalent flight still to go.

Though my longest on plane experience was getting delayed on the tarmac for like 3-4hrs on my Brussels->DC flight. Started with Prisoner of Azkaban, was nearly to Cedrics death before we took off, and finished the entire Harry Potter series before we landed.

This ^ plus beers throughout the flight leading to more toilet trips and also being somewhat tall-ish and solid-build make aisle seats a must for me. Plus, as I've seen a few people mention, most people in window seats tend to choose them (in my experience) so they can use the wall of the plane as leverage for a pillow etc. to sleep - meaning they leave you alone and aren't constantly trying to get past.

When I flew home from the States to Aus it was LAX - SYD in a single flight, took like 16 hours. It was an experience to say the least.
