Driving up northeast is actually not bad I’ve done it multiple times. There are thruways with limited exits that circumvent most Philly and NYC traffic if you have to. Philly is easy enough to drive in and out of and so is Baltimore compared to DC lmao. For NYC I used to park in Staten Island and take the ferry cause the subway will get you everywhere else.

just found $115 in about 20 seconds of searching. tolls are $12 each, lets say there's 5 on the way up there, i feel like that's being EXTREMELY generous too, that's $120 just in tolls, not including gas and stress.

Tolls are not all $12 each some of them are like $2

Train is also a lot slower. For example, DC to Boston is 9.5 hours. That’s a whole travel day. If you drive or fly you might still have the energy to have a nice first night in.

that said, taking train to Pittsburgh is easier than driving all around those mountains so it depends

All the ones I've seen thus far are $12. Feels easier to just take the train.

Nah. it costs like $55 in tolls to get past NY from here not $120

Amtrak says under 7 hours via train. Google says about the same for driving.

Also keep in mind before you argue based on just looking things up that I’ve actually made all these drives more than once haha

Also, You used to think Baltimore sucks and wouldn’t let me convince you it doesn’t just because of “looking things up”, now that I actually got to show it to you you love it. Haha think what you wanna think but just know it comes across very presumptuous to act like an authority on stuff you’ve never physically seen

So five years ago. I drove to Delaware last week and it was $48 in tolls.

You also mentioned getting stuck on the wrong route. Might have ended up going through the same toll twice. You should only have to pay once to cross the city of Baltimore and once at the end of Maryland

I have crossed Baltimore a lot of times to know the cheapest and fastest way through so there’s another point for experience

What I mean is, 695, 895, and 95 all have tolls but you should only have to go through one if you went the correct way. You should not have had 4 different tolls on the way to Delaware lol. If you take the Bay Bridge it’s 1.

because you like to act like you know stuff you don’t know and it’s funny to me cause this has been my home for 10 years, you think you can sum it up in 3 months.

I too used to be exclusively window seat and slept through my flights, but Ive now done so many international/long flights that Ive come around to aisle seat for the leg room.

Though I did window/middle with me and my wife when we fly with our baby in July, and thats all about keeping the baby from taking a drink cart to the head

This doesnt even have to be hypothetical, I was planning a trip from my place in DC to Acadia. 11 hours of driving + ~$60 in tolls + $100 or so in gas was about what one way looked like. A direct, <2hr Southwest flight to Portland was $100. Easiest decision ever, flying made way more sense even adding rental car costs...its basically the difference of losing 2 days of vacation.

But it was a time thing; tolls arent that bad (gas very much is now)

lol i actually feel dumb now cause my whole point is moot. Gas. We didn’t talk about gas.

Worst drive of my life was out to Colorado, and that was because you have to drive on US-70 through Kansas where there is absolutely fucking nothing for like 5+ hours. Honestly reminds me a bit of the coastal drive from DC to Okefenokee I did, where that whole VA and NC stretch on 95 blows as well because its just FLAAAAT.

Close 2nd worst drive was Austin->PA, where you get through like 6 states in 4 hours, then spend 16 straight hours just driving through TN and VA

It estimated my DC to Acadia drive as $165 total, with $47.27 in tolls. But yeah, the SW flight was like $114+fees, so, at worst break even in direct costs...and then parking+rental car makes flying more expensive but I gain back 10hrs of travel each way AND can watch movies unlike driving

  25. From my house to DC is 15 in tolls I just looked it up. Paying 48 to get to Delaware means you went the wrong way lol.
