They're like PFF grades really, if they enforce what you already believe you're like "now this is a great point" (the general "you" not you specifically)

If they don't then, well, it's not worth bringing up

A tale as old as time, but we're just trying to get by so it is what it is

For sure. That's why I think it's pretty wild how they have had a lot of success because we wouldn't be having this conversation if key players like that suffered significant injuries. The conversation would be along the lines of "Well, this is what happens when you build a team that relies on a handful of studs acquired through trading draft picks instead of developing multiple young players!"

Those pieces being such important parts of the foundation, along with the coaching staff, are why - while I do feel like picks can be crazy overvalued sometimes and veterans undervalued - we still won’t see teams do what the Rams did successfully. If other teams try to follow suit I feel like it’ll fall apart fast

Also re: @GreatBeardRecs 's post about QB situations...I feel like the same is the case for an OL, trying to force 2-4 good players together only seems to work if you can scheme the line well and if there's good chemistry between the bunch. You can maybe insert 1 excellent OL player and make big improvements but to actually build a good all-around OL I think the Texans are a good example of how you can't just plug in whoever and pray, especially with bad staff

Don't mind me y'all I'm just playing the "I have to wait on everyone at work to get shit done" game while also playing the "I have to wait on mortgage people to get shit done" game

This is a big part of why I thought it was very bad that the Texans traded the amount of draft capital they did for Tunsil. Tunsil is a great player, but the Texans offensive line was garbage and one great player isn't going to help it rise up to mediocrity. I think offensive lines are a sum of their parts. The Bills are a great example of just getting a bunch of guys who are serviceable and getting by with it. Josh Allen's mobility changes things, sure, but even the Rams don't have a ton of stud players along the line. They have Whitworth and then a bunch of guys who are somewhere on the spectrum of fine/solid to good.

I'm frequently very upset when I imagine what it could have been like for the Texans trading for Tunsil if they were able to retain Brandon Brooks instead of trying to switch him out for fucking Jeff Allen

I'm sure you're not upset about that though haha

I mean, most teams shouldn't do what the Rams did. The Rams were in an incredibly unique spot. The only team I'd advocate selling out their drafts like the Rams did right now would be the Broncos for Russ or Rodgers.

I'm not even sure they should sell out their drafts THAT much. Get a QB, yeah sure. Go all in on gathering the Justice League or whatever, I don't think I'd do that

Good young team with most of the roster pretty set, yeah go get your QB and get your ring. I think people get too hung up on sustained success and overlook just success haha. Letting the perfect get in the way of the very good.

Like outside of any volume jokes, Randall's big beef with this team building structure is it's not sustainable. Fine, it's not. Who cares? Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey have rings, Les Sneed has a job for life, Sean McVay gets to claim he's the top coach in the NFL, and none of that stuff gets taken away.

There's also the luck factor though, the right place-right time factor, and even though people have very short term memories about the Chiefs in the Broncos div/the state of the AFC in general...sustained success aside, I think getting it right is gonna be hard in that environment to even get that little bit of success. The Rams had INSANELY good foundational pieces in place that I'm not sure the Broncos have.

Yeah, def gonna be tough to find another team that just has a Cooper Kupp and Aaron Donald chilling haha. That's why I was so on board with the Rams doing it because they already drafted their generational studs.

    Non-football talk:

it’s been sleeting all day and it’s nothing but an ice rink on all the roads. Businesses are closed, highways are closed or at a stand still because of accidents.

the news has been telling us this was coming for two days or so.

And yet I saw a Jimmy John’s car pull up to my apartment building twice day. Idk. I feel like that’s a bit of an asshole move? I get that “it’s their job” to deliver food but in treacherous conditions I’d just fucking not have someone else risk themselves and others on the road so I can get some food.

maaaaaaybe I’d consider it if I was gonna give them like a $100 tip or something but that’s still kind of like saying “money is worth the risk of your safety”.

idk maybe I’m weird for seeing it that way but damn, I would not wanna be delivering food or driving at all in sleet and ice covered everything.
