I think they are comparably impressive technicians but that Thibs’ game is so fast that it’s hard to catch all the subtle things he does to win

 

One of them plays in the Big Ten and one plays in the Pac-12 lol. One of them almost single-handedly destroyed a top ten team, one with at least three lineman worth drafting before day three. Shit, he was beating them so bad they literally had to switch their guys around. Level of competition is definitely not a metric you want to use if you're gonna have this argument haha.

 

Also worth noting that Thibs's best opponents kept him in check.

 

hutchinson literally has more help on the DL though. On Oregon Thibs is obviously the guy to double team and he still goes off

 

I wasn’t using level of competition to compare them, I was using it to explain why finding as many games on tape as I can find is my preferred method instead of putting more weight on the stats

 

Except he doesn't "go off", like I just said lol. Also, Hutchinson was regularly double-teamed as well.

You could pretty much use every argument Randall has used against Hutch as an argument against JJ Watt lol

 

You can’t just compare a dude to JJ Watt just because I said he’s not as athletic as another guy lol. That’s an absurd connection you just made. I wasn’t that specific nor did I really criticize Hutchinson, all I did was explain why Thibs skillet intrigued me more.

 

If we’re playing that game then i can just as easily say “Thibs is the most dominant & versatile athlete at the EDGE position since Myles Garrett was drafted*” but y’all would say im exaggerating too.

*this statement classifies Micah Parsons as a LB who blitzes a lot, not an edge

Hutchinson plays opposite Ojabo, who received more attention in a lot of situations. A lot of Michigan opponents used backs to help on Ojabo.

That isn't a shot at Hutchinson, but he was in a better situation.

 

He should be though.

 

I said the most dominant athlete, which is absolutely true. And maybe he would be the most dominant edge period if he had Ojabo on the other side and a good back 7 behind him like Hutch does

Matter of fact if I had my way we would’ve drafted Ceedee Lamb, Justin Jefferson, Trevon Diggs in 2020. I really wasn’t about what we did instead at all. And I would’ve been 100% correct to take 2 elite receivers and a guy who is a turnover machine.

That was exactly what my plan was in the mock draft - I took Lamb and Diggs but JJ went before pick 20, which he didn’t in the actual draft. We very literally could’ve had all three

Hutch was only the best defensive player in college cause he had a good guy opposite him. Well, we have Josh Allen so lol

 

Yeah OR Gardner Minshew actually gets credit for being a QB with potential once he’s throwing to Lamb and JJ haha

And you can say “there’s no guarantee we would’ve developed those players as well” but actually Keenan McCardell would’ve probably kept his job as WR coach - and he’s the one coaching Justin Jefferson right now in MIN
