He's an elite prospect at his position, but if Houston takes a safety third overall, they deserve to stay terrible.

Also, Neal would be a boring ass pick but if they move on from Tunsil I get it

BUT you have Tytus who has looked good already at LT in brief stints this season

 

Mid-to-late first unless it's Sean Taylor (and in today's league, I'm not sure he'd be that valuable either).

I'd take a WR at 3 over Kyle Hamilton.

Thib is both technically proficient and an incredible athlete.

Outstanding run defender, outstanding first step timing & speed, outstanding reflexes batting down passes, great tackler in space, sheds blocks very quickly and sometimes beats multiple blocks on one snap, terrifying inside move etc

 

Yeah, so is Hutchinson.

 

Hutchinson does not have these things and I would also argue Thibodeaux’s outside speed threat makes his inside move more dangerous, considering his speed forces tackles to over-set to the outside if they can’t match his athleticism

 

I think OL will be able to “handle” Hutchinson in the NFL even if he is a successful player… Thibs is the kinda athlete that puts actual fear in the opponent

 

I see no reason why Hutchinson would be "handled" lol. I suggest watching more of him.

 

I'm also never one to bet on athleticism over technique. Hutchinson is the safer option. Thibs could have a higher ceiling but he could also have a lower floor. We are GARBAGE. Take the surest bet.

 

better athletes put more stress on OL because it’s harder to maintain consistent technique when a dude is way more explosive than you are. Thibs’ first step and ability to attack outside OR inside with lightning quickness will force guys to block him off balance and without feet properly set

Hutchinson doesn’t have that kind of burst and will get better blocking across from him as a result

 

Hutchinson is by no means unathletic though.

 

Eh he’s not really that special of an athlete though. He’s a grinder with excellent technique. We’ll know at the Combine how wide the difference is but Thibs is a bona fide top-percentile athlete at the position, and thats really hard for me to pass up considering his tape doesnt really have holes

 

Neither does Hutchinsons haha. How much have you actually watched

yeah… so if they are equally impressive technicians then you go with the way better athlete. I don’t put as much stock into stat collection as you do, lot more variables can influence that at the college level

 

We’d have legit one of, if not the most athletic PAIR of edges in the league if we paired Thibodeaux with Josh Allen

 

They aren't equally impressive technicians. I also cannot fathom putting more stock in 4 games in three years than the totality of their playing time lol. That actually shows you big picture to help give context to games.

 

I'd absolutely love Kayvon at 2. He's still a great pick at 1. Just not the best imo

 

Most of those matchups don’t tell you much. Every player getting drafted goes off against worse teams. The disparity in level of competition is a big deal.

I like to watch for myself how they performed against the best competition they faced, and the eye test helps you see how disruptive they were the whole time - how many “wins” & excellent plays didn’t show up on the stat sheet, for example. Or, in some cases, how they fared against a really good offensive line. Watching tape tells you if it was great plays by them or horrible blocking by the opponent haha
