Okay but what aren't you understanding here lol. If JJ is GENERATIONAL, then he's your first option. Not trade down and ONE of your options

 

JJ was not my 8th best option… trading down from 9 was my 8th best option because we could probably get JJ at 20 anyway

I would’ve considered JJ at 20 probably our best pick even if we also got someone better at 9

 

Exactly it is SO hard to find a generational player that you just fuckin go get the generational player wherever you can

 

Reaching for somebody that’s going to fall to your next pick should never be your first option no matter how high you are on them

I’m not saying generational prospect I am saying generational player.

Justin Jefferson may not have been seen as a generational prospect (and I’m saying the NFL community was wrong about that, but admitting that I did change my mind because of the prevailing opinion)

but as a player he holds the record for most rookie receiving yards (formerly held by Randy Moss) and the record for most in his first two years (formerly Beckham). I would say that’s pretty generational performance so far. He is literally instantly putting up top 3 WR in the league stats with KIRK COUSINS, a guy we regularly dunk on for not being as good as his stats suggest. In a primarily run-first offense too. Which you can’t say about a lot of guys. Let alone if you watch Vikings games you’d see that Cousins misses him a LOT on top of the numbers he already puts up.

Did I pound the table for him at 9, was I willing to be the only guy saying that? No, and I guess I was weak for not wanting to have that argument. But I still feel vindicated that he is way better than the WR I was talked down to thinking he was.

Yeah, in this rare instance one generational player was overshadowed by another. It’s crazy they were both in the same offense but here we are. I’m glad I wasn’t wrong that JJ was elite too even if Chase has a more flashy / big play skill set

 

On draft day you don't get to say "he's going to be a generational player but also he's not a generational prospect", that's just kinda insane

You can say it with hindsight all day after the fact that he was a generational player but not a generational prospect (like Brady!), but not before the fuckin draft happens

And once more for good measure - you cannot be talking about Jefferson as an NFL player while talking about draft perspective. That can only be referring to Jefferson the prospect. So when you say generational and passing on him, it's clear that you're referring to the prospect

 

Yeah, which is why I’m not sitting here saying “we should’ve taken him at 9 over Henderson”. THAT would be hindsight. But I’m saying, knowing that he is generational now, I’m disappointed we didn’t take him where I originally wanted him / where he was actually valued at the time because he turned out to be a steal. Imo we were not aggressive enough if we didn’t take Lamb at 9 OR JJ at 20

I don’t think so. At the time I considered JJ one of the best options at 20 and he was my top option there if we didn’t go Lamb. He was my favorite player there but I wanted one WR and one defense player… if we didn’t take Lamb it was JJ for me all day. That’s not me saying I knew he was gonna be a generational player… that’s me saying damn I was right to value him as our best option there because he has turned out to be that good

And yet on draft day I have him listed as a top option for pick 20, to the point I’d even like to target him if we trade down from pick 9
