  1. The only answers are trotting out a below average QB though. Sure if the Steelers love a QB in this draft, fine go get him. But if not, investing in the OL, DL, and other areas is more valuable to the future.

You're not going to convince me that getting Wentz or jimmy g will be a better long term play than just playing Rudolph and getting better elsewhere.

He’s not the GM anymore. George Paton makes the call.

That Steelers 8-8 season, the Ravens went 14-2. Browns went 6-10 (which feels VERY possible again). Obviously Bengals were the worst team in the league, but, thats two games. The Steelers took that 14-2 Ravens team to OT.

As the 2nd palce team, we'll get Pats/Colts/Raiders/Eagles/Vikings/Saints/Cardinals as opponents...3 of whom switched coaches, and at least one more will get rid of its QB. Truthfully, Eagles/Pats might be the only team that keeps coach and QB.

Only person potentially lost from the defense is Joe Haden. Offensively, we lose some WRs but thats the easiest thing we replace. There's a <5% chance we end up with a top 10 pick, basically.

Man, if we had gone 7-9-1 this year, and finished 4th in the division, our schedule next year would have been SOOOOO easy. Jets/Jags/Broncos/Giants/Lions/Panthers/Seahawks...only QB in that whole pack is Russell Wilson

Well there’s always injuries. Maybe you’ll get a few of those to get a good pick.

We lost James Conners for 6 games that season, Juju for 4 games, Tuitt got hurt for most of the year. Basically 1/3rd of the season without our #1 QB/WR/RB trio. Still went 8-8.

Strong possibility we’re in for some 4-7 win seasons coming up soon. But just because Tomlin hasn’t had a losing season yet doesn’t mean he can’t.

Roethlisberger may have been below average the past few years, but he did give them stability. Regardless of what happens, I’m excited for the future and the growing pains or lack there of.

I just think the defense is too good to have one of those truly terrible seasons.

I mean, if I had the choice, I'd LOVE a season where Watt/Heyward/Tuitt/Najee all go down for relatively minor, but season ending after say a 1-5 start, type injuries and we went 4-13 and had a shot at a top QB then

Yeah I get that. It might not be in the next 1-2 years, but once Heyward falls off they’re a TJ injury away from a putrid defense. And as evident by 31 NFL teams not named the Packers, it usually takes some time to get a good QB back in the saddle. I’m just saying, winning is hard and it’s definitely not a given!

My takeaway from the last few pages of this thread is that Steelers fans really just don’t know what it’s like when their team sucks ass.

    Brace yourselves, friends.

The only Steelers game I saw in person, Kent Graham was our starter. So, I do know what its like to start a dogshit offensive team. But the benefit of having owners that stick with a coach and have long-term team planning is that its pretty hard to end up Jags/Browns/Lions level bad. You need to trade away or miss entire drafts for years AND churn through 3 coaches in 3 years or let a new coach torpedo relationships with all your top players to get to that level of bad.

Theres a reason the Pats didnt fall apart post-Brady. There's a reason the Saints will somehow finish .500 again despite an impossibly fucked cap situation. Funny enough for the Steelers, a good chunk of the defensive core is getting players from those panicky teams that sold cheap on talent

Pretty much. I was in middle school I think, and worst part was it was my parents friends son who worked for the Ravens...so we sat in the Ravens family section for the game. It was a 9-6 classic.

I do think we're entering a 1998-2003 type period where we're not gonna have a shot in hell at the SB, and finish solidly in 3rd place in the division most years. But the team has gone 5-11 once in my 36 years of life. I cant even imagine the scenario, short of an actual Bane stadium implosion, where we finish 4-13 and get a top 5 pick

I got down on the field before the game and my god, Kent Graham was tall as hell. I can see why a coach would think "he looks like a QB"
