    (:

It still boggles my mind the Colts made that trade for Wentz knowing they could lose a first round pick. They honestly should have known better imo.

    The rivalry is back on

    i see it both ways

on the one hand, the fact that you traded a first round pick for a QB that you’re considering moving on from after 1 year is a complete failure

on the other hand, they had to start someone, and outside of running it back with Rivers if he was amenable to doing so (and I think he was the one who retired vs the Colts saying thanks but no thanks), they somehow did not pick the most disastrous option:

In order of how I’d rate these imperfect options:

    A) trade 3 firsts for Stafford (the best option which didn’t happen)

    B) trade a 1 and a 3 for Wentz (got the worst possible outcome from this one — missed training camp with injuries, played the entire regular season, but also didn’t win the job)

    C) trade 2 1s and probably a little extra for the Justin Fields pick and deal with the fact that he looked like a disaster and a half this year and that this probably would have been a 6-7 win team this year with him playing meaningful snaps (and then still not have your 1 to capitalize on that bad season)

    D) play it “safe” and trade a 2 for Darnold, sign Teddy for cheap, etc, and be in the same spot this year without having even tried to fix the position for a year

  4. Why would I want Wentz to win the Steelers two extra games over Rudolph?

Steelers will eek out an ugly 7-8 wins no matter what. Why would I want Wentz to win me 10 and hurt that draft position in 2023, which is when the Steelers should be looking for a QB.

I mean, if you are cutting him and we can sign him for no draft picks, sure. But surely Indy wants at least the 3rd rounder they gave up last year. In which case, Id genuinely rather take a shot with Rudolph and a 3rd round QB draft pick + have $20mil in cap space to re-sign some guys early (see: Diontae Johnson) or to grab some OL free agents.

Landry Jones & Duck Hodges are two of the worst QBs I've ever seen and even they are .500 combined in starts. Pittsburgh is immune to 4-5 win seasons.

    there is one way out

Yeah. My initial thought was “we already have a Carson Wentz on the roster”. Not saying he’s equal to Rudolph, but the difference is not worth the additional money that could be allocated elsewhere.

I'm not telling anyone in here that they should want Wentz. In fact, I said "I would hope that every team says no," but some team is going to be desperate to sign him as their starter and I won't be surprised in the least bit

  15. I don't wish for it, it's just inevitable. Tomlin had a 500 season with Rudolph and duck. He will not allow the team to be bad enough to get a high draft pick.

  16. He also started a season I think 0-6 or something and ended up 8-8 and was a missed chiefs fg away from the playoffs lol

That’s when the chiefs beat the chargers except it was the backup chiefs, right? lol

The only time I remember the Steelers being bad under Tomlin is the year we signed James Harrison & beat them on Monday Night Football. And I'm pretty sure they went on a streak to finish 8-8.

The Bengals are good now though. The Ravens will likely bounce back. I don't have much faith in a Mayfield led Browns team, but I'd take him over Mason Rudolph.

The Steelers are not in a good spot.

  21. I guess I'm confused and we are probably talking last each other. I definitely think the Steelers are a not good team, but they will somehow have a 7-9 win season regardless of who they trot out at QB.

they should play mason Rudolph next year and get a QB in 2023.

    The rivalry is back on

Idk, outside of falling upwards into the #1 pick in a year with a top QB prospect, I don’t even think there’s even a method that tends to get franchise QBs more. LAC is the only team I can think of who parlayed a down but not tanking season (and even then, they had Phil Rivers as opposed to a clear backup QB) into an elite, drafted QB, while Buffalo, KC, Baltimore, and Houston (rip) all did it after either making or being very near the playoffs and navigating the draft board

I get your argument for just trotting out Rudolph and probably wouldn’t recommend mortgaging the future to get someone who isn’t the answer for sure, but I just don’t agree that it is accomplishes much of anything besides having to sit through a slog year and having the same problem next year with maybe a slightly better draft pick

I want Rudolph to be the starter so I can literally get banned from twitter from harassing the guy that said Rudolph isn't that far below Burrow.
