yeah but that doesn’t matter to me. This is a non-story and a suspension that doesn’t even affect the league and if it’s that easy to be suspended for a whole YEAR over $1500 worth of betting then why the fuck can’t they give two shits about domestic abusers

I'm not comparing the two at all....but Watson hasn't played for a year and will still get a lengthy suspension whenever the time comes. So it's not like he is going unpunished.

With Ridley, it's a rule. He broke it. And I feel like something like gambling it has to be kind of a blanket rule. If you start nitpicking what's allowed and what isn't it will get messy. It absolutely sucks, but it's a rule every player should know.

 

I’m just not sure where the conflict of interest is in this specific scenario. He didn’t play for the Falcons at all, had no impact on how they performed in the game.

I get that on principle it must always be punished to discourage others from actually betting on things they CAN influence... it’s more so the severity of the punishment compared to much worse transgressions / and considering the context that bugs me

Yeah considering suspension precedent for DV and rape is a handful of games max if anything a year for that is pretty ridiculous.

 

I get that, but like, why? At the end of the day Calvin Ridley gambling on the Falcons winning is like 1/1000th the needle mover that a game changing flag to set up the winning score in the super bowl was in terms of my perception that the whole thing could be fixed. (I'm not saying it is, just if anything is going to raise an eyebrow what happened a month ago did so a lot more for me personally.)

 

I'm with you, what he did is pretty innocent by itself. But once you open the door a little bit I feel like you're asking for some kind of scandal.
