Yeah, definitely tricky. I guess this one falls into the realm of it doesn't hurt to ask, and present it well, and worst thing, if you are thriving 6 months or a year in, you can go right back to them and say "ok, now how about X amount". And it will tell you a lot about your management in how they handle it...if they remember you asked for more up front and offer it to you, its a solid company long-term. If they blow you off again a year in, its time to jump ship.

I say this because my wife has an amazing manager who helped her rewrite her job ~2 years ago (she runs UMD's outdoor program) to have less field time so it was easier to have a kid. And now she's cutting out field time entirely, empowering her coordinators, and taking on some staff development stuff she's always wanted to do (while getting a raise). And the University wins because she'll stay there forever and they dont have to go hire some unproven entity at 90% of her salary and deal with the several months of training.

Thibodeaux is the best player in this draft. Why are people trying to make this difficult?

 

Because he isn't

 

I feel like people have just gotten bored with him being the top player. He was dominant just like we all expected. Draft season rolls around and people are getting more excited about other players now. I don't see why anyone would think any less of him now than they did a few months ago. Like, he is going to be the favorite for DPOY and I'd bet on him to win it.

 

I agree with most of this. Who knows how he’ll be as a player but he never really “declined” as a prospect and I do think people are overthinking him as a prospect

I do get not having him as THE top prospect but I think people thinking he’s just gonna bust based off…nothing changing…is weird

(not saying any of y’all are saying that but I’ve seen it out there for sure)

 

I'm not saying Jags are wrong for taking Neal, if they do. It makes sense to get more protection for Lawrence. But I also don't think Neal is a can't miss tackle prospect. Their OL wasn't terrible last season and they have the cap to upgrade the line in free agency. I think finding a guy like Thibs is much harder and he could make a huge impact for that team.
