I mean I think Bloom has been fine as GM (or whatever made up title he has), solid C+, low grade was because of this year mainly, but to blame him for Mookie and Xander isn’t fair, that’s on ownership, same if Devers doesn’t get done. Benny stuff is ridiculous because he was cooked and still hasn’t turned into what he was in 2018.

You obviously know the owners are the ones that sign off on those big long term contracts right? It’s not like a GM is given a blank check book and says just sign whoever you want whenever you want.

Boras literally said in multiple interviews this year that he would negotiate Bogaerts contract directly with ownership. Hal was the one that called Judge to keep him on the Yankees by extending their offer.

I’m killing ownership for not spending money not defending them.

I know that this is primarily an ownership issue (obv Bloom wasn’t here when Lester walked, or even Pedro if we want to go back further), but Bloom hasn’t done enough here for me to think that he’s this savant being handicapped by greedy ownership.

 

I’ve criticized Bloom and ownership too.

 

He gets a C+ because he’s done a nice job of restocking the farm system, has done well in trades for the most part and last year the team was 2 wins away from a WS.

He had a poor 2022 season with not building depth at the MLB level and not getting under the luxury tax with a last place team.

I do think his hands are tied by ownership in terms of spending.

Do I think he’s a savior ala Theo? No but I don’t think he’s the worst GM in the game either. This is clearly a make or break year for him.

 

I def think the owners are more of a problem. I usually do. I think Cashman takes a bit more heat than he deserves although he's certainly been allowed to hand out enough bad money to where he is definitely more to blame for some things than Bloom would be. Cashman is lucky Donaldson/IKF hasn't buried him lol

Exactly. I mean for all we know Cashman wanted to sign Machado and/or Harper and was told directly from Hal no we’re not spending money this year. That’s not Cashman’s fault where as the Donaldson/IKF trade is on him. On the flip side maybe Cashman didn’t want to resign Judge but he was overruled by Hal. Without being part of the process it’s hard to really point fingers.
