Like, you can’t even be surprised with this ownership. They seem to love driving out homegrown stars with championship pedigree. It’s the weirdest fetish in sports lol

I love Xander, will definitely be rooting for him in SD but not upset the Sox didn’t match that offer. 11 years for someone that probably shouldn’t be a SS in a few years is interesting.

Personality aside Carlos Correa is the right move they should go to now. He’s younger, a better all around player and will stay at SS longer. Let’s see what they do, not confident though.

Realistically the Sox should have locked up Xander last offseason.

They don’t have a good track record of keeping their home grown guys. It’s not like Boston is an easy place to play in, you’d think if you have a player that shows they have been successful in that city you’d want to keep them.

They’re selling the team. I wish they’d just say it. That’s what’s most irritating about this ownership group. Always a lot of “we’re all in” talk followed by losing a homegrown stud. I mean, Lester, Betts, Xander is a roooough list.

I do miss the days when ownership just cared about the Sox and would continuously spend big when they wanted a player.

It is an interesting strategy, winning four World Series titles, over the course of 15 years, and then deciding to model your team after Tampa Bay, who have famously not won a fucking thing

It’s like…kinda funny to watch? Like, if in 2000 I told you the Red Sox would win 4 in the next 20 years, you’d assume the owners would be GODS amongst the city. But they’ve never really been well liked. There’s always been a distrust there for some reason, and with these decisions they’re only making that worse.

I don't disagree with this even being biased.

I can see maybe getting a WC spot if we can make some BP moves though, still all about the SP health per usual.

I was really hoping we'd go for Kenley almost seemed like a layup tbh

Probably has to do with how players would be bashed in the media once they left town.

I’m not at the point of yelling for them to sell the town because SD gave Bogaerts an 11 year deal but if they let Devers walk/trade him I think it’s time they sell because it would be obvious they don’t care anymore.

I’m not personally wanting them to sell, I just think they are. It’s the only thing that makes their philosophical pivot make a lick of sense. It just sucks seeing the Padres behave like the Red Sox and the Red Sox behave like the Padres in the meantime.

So torn between wanting to dunk on Sox ownership and also being mostly OK they weren’t close to matching that. Any deal that takes a player into their 40s a decade from now is absurd.

I’ll legit never forgive them for Mookie though. Pretty much ruined the sport for me, it’s not totally rational but I almost enjoy watching bad things happen to this team now.

Maybe it’s naïve, but I think he would have stayed on a discount, just not the lowball that was offered to him earlier this year

I mean the AAV is only like 25, I think he may have done like 8 or 9 years or something at higher AAV. I doubt the Sox even came close to anything competitive though. I don't think anyone should've given him 11 years, def not saying that lol

Sox came in at 6/162 I believe.

I think it’s entirely fair to be mad at ownership for not getting something done with him last offseason or during the year but also ok with them not giving him that contract too.

Yeah don’t get me wrong I think y’all are not a bad team, I just see the rangers as more of a low-80s win total team right now. And I don’t think anything less than 90 is gonna get it done for a playoff spot in the AL this year

If the owners ever sell the team the first thing the new ownership should do is bring Don back.
