sure the dodgers could spend more and sure they fucked up by signing bauer and that probably affects things a bit, but i don't think that's a primary factor in their calculus. i just don't buy it. until freddie they'd never been big free agent spenders, like hardly ever. i think they're not super hot on any of this year's FAs and are fine running it back sans trea and hoarding their money for when literally shohei fucking ohtani hits free agency in ten months. have to think they'll have the inside track to signing him.
