we've seen the shadow of the axe before Supporter

I think Rizzo might just be shaking his head here because he can’t believe he got thrown out not because he doesn’t agree with the call. He was obviously out.

The snag was dom smith is better than eric hosmer.

If Dom Smith isn’t happy with a platoon role on the Mets as is being reported, I kinda hope the Mets can work out a trade with another team. People were acting like if we went through with that trade it was the worst thing we could do but Dom really isn’t a key piece of our offense

    Agree 100%

dom is simply not a starter on this team. he can be the every day DH but it doesnt sound like even that would satisfy him, which is understandable and totally fine. if dom’s attitude is that he thinks he is a starter and has proven himself and doesn’t want to be a bench guy, i’m glad he has the confidence in himself, but the Mets need to find a way to trade him. Simple as that.

Gonna double down on hating the Mets. Trading Dom for Eric freaking Hosmer and the guy who started a feud with Alonso might just be the final blow (ok, we know it won't be, but I would still be very sad)

What’s the big issue with Hosmer? Stat-wise, he clearly performed better than Dom last season.

He scored on the bad duda throw in game 5

There's the Duda throw, yes. There's also the fact that (by fWAR) he's been a replacement level player or worse for three years. Dom can give you replacement level production for free, with a hurt shoulder no less (and I think he has a good bounce back as long as he's healthy). Hosmer's simply not good

  10. "for free" implies that Cohen doesn't have unlimited money and a willingness to spend it, which is false

Paddack would have more upside than Smith in the next few years imo

The point was simply that Dom and Hosmer are equally bad at their worst, but that with Dom, you could always cut him at any time (he also has minor league options), whereas Hosmer has 4 more years on his deal, which might be more than even Cohen would want to completely throw away. I mean, Cano is still on the roster. So, yes, you still very much prefer someone being terrible "for free" than someone being terrible on a four year deal, no matter who the owner is. If Cano gets released, maybe then we can talk

Obviously Paddack is the reason for the trade and Hosmer is there to reduce the cost. Paddack of course has plenty of upside, but he's coming off a season where he was pretty terrible and is also pitching with a partially torn UCL. So you have to ask yourself both whether he's more likely to bounce back (I have no clue) and whether he's better than Megill at this point (I'm skeptical). In the end, if Cohen really has infinite money and is willing to take on a bad contract to bolster the rotation, he should be doing a lot better than Paddack

  15. Yeah that's reasonable. I have no idea about Paddack honestly, he's seemed so so bad last year.

Then there is the angle of idk that you wanna do the Padres a favor lol when I think it's pretty reasonable to assume y'all and then are gonna be in the same position the next few yrs (good teams but not division favorites)
