"If you put a cement wall where Jacob Trouba is, Timo Meier is going to run into that cement wall with his head down." Cement walls are not sentient and thus are incapable of adjusting their positioning prior to making contact with a human being. Marty Biron not understanding the concept of adjusting one's positioning likely helps explain why he never quite made it as a full time starter.
To be fair, adjusting your positioning in a split second decision in real time is not as easy as you make it sound
A split-second adjustment wasn't necessary. Trouba had more than enough time to adjust given how long Meier was in the position he was. Meier didn't lean forward at the last second - Meier carried the puck through the entire neutral zone to about 5-10 feet over the blue line, leaning forward/hunching over slightly the whole way, as carrying the puck requires one to do. Meier's in that position when Trouba's on the bench, Meier's still in that position when Trouba comes off the bench, and Meier remained in that position when the hit was made.
One thing that would have been helpful to viewers was explaining the change in rebound philosophy. They compared Bob to Brodeur when it comes to rebound control, which makes zero sense. Brodeur wanted to absorb and deaden rebounds, directing them to a specific area was done more via stick or blocker. His pads weren't designed for, nor were they very good for, directing hot rebounds. So saying Bob gave up a bad rebound (true) is merely pointing out what happened. Henrik saying what he would have done (except for all the times he didn't do that and gave up the same rebound goals) is nice, but was missing a ton of actual info.
If Marner is a top-3 defensive forward, then the league is very short on defensive forwards. Like, Mitch is good, but come on.
