I generally trust anyone from the athletic but kurz is very new to the Islanders beat, like less than a year. Arthur staple was amazing for them but he's the rangers guy now.

Friedman made a comment that he is uncertain if Yzerman is comfortable committing long term to anyone at this point in time. Strome could be a legitimate option because he may want to bet on himself on a short term deal in attempt to get a higher salary later. I can’t wait for Yzerman to sign like 3 guys to 7 year deals and Friedman is just completely wrong because no one has a clue what is going on in Detroit. It was really interesting watching Yzerman’s post-draft media availability, and he said something along the lines of “we needed a goalie so now we got that taken care of. We tried to do more things but couldn’t get anything done…” It’ll be interesting to see if he is super active because it sounds like he’s trying to shape the roster finally… could be a wild time in FA… or he could sign Marc Staal and a couple other vets to 1 year deals. We’ll see!!!
I agree, but I liked what Yzerman said about his upcoming free agents- he said that he hasn’t decided for or against bringing any of them back. He said that he’s looking to improve his roster, so it sounds like it’s a situation where Yzerman is interested in guys like Staal, Gagner, and Rowney, but if he can find better guys to fill those spots on the roster he will do that instead. I feel like both Staal + Gagner could find a deal somewhere regardless of if it is Detroit or somewhere else
