Devils would have had to include Nico to match that, and yeah thats something they shouldn't be doing. Oh well.
Even if Hubie and Weegar are flipped at the deadline, that’s a hell of a haul for a guy who had a year left and publicly wanted out.
I’m sorry I didn’t see that Florida included a first rounder? I can’t be the only one that thinks Calgary won this trade handily right?
Really wanted Matthew and thought it was going to happen but holy shit I’m glad Army didn’t pay that cost. Probably couldn’t have matched that anyways.
its precarious for Calgary but if it’s clear one or both of them won’t re-sign they can get a haul at the deadline. A top line forward and a top pair d-man could get them a ton of high quality assets.
I just feel like they traded a 24 year old on an expiring contract for a 29 year old on an expiring contract. They're going to be in basically the same spot with Huberdeau as they just were with Tkachuk....but Huberdeau is much older. A deal at the deadline means they'll be getting less than his actual worth because the team taking him is risking him being a rental. Weegar is fine but his deal is also expiring and if Calgary is able to keep him it'll probably be an overpay.
I mean, no matter which way you slice it, Calgary got a pretty great return on a deal they had almost no leverage in
I actually think that Calgary winning the trade is worse for them long run. No guarantee these guys stay. The big knock against huberdeau was that he had protected minutes in Florida. In Calgary he's gonna be the guy. They'll limp into playoffs and have an early exit. With tkachuk Florida becomes more of a cup threat.
If cap circumvention offends you wait'll you get a load of tax evasion (it's not evasion I know and also most all star contracts do this)
