As usual, Canes deals don’t make a ton of sense until all the moves are made and the yearly off-season puzzle they put together is complete. I like Orlov, two years for him is a good bridge until Nikishin can come over. Bringing in Karlsson as well would be bonkers but if they aren’t committing to either Skjei or Pesce long term it kind of makes sense with Nikishin and Morrow in the wings. Both goalies coming back is fine, after seeing Grubauer and Hill win back to back cups i’m fine with us not chasing a Hellebuyck. Even if Kotchetkov spends most of the year in the A again we’re still spending less money on the trip than we did last year. Bunting brings us an element we’ve been missing big time, this deal just adds to the confusion of what we’re going to do with the forwards. I expect more than a few trades this month to tweak things.
Like, I know Yzerman got dealt a shit hand. But it’s like year 5 of this rebuild and I don’t feel much better than I did when it first started outside of having Seider and Raymond. Idk. Just getting frustrated
I think a little roster reshuffle is needed. The bulk of the core have been around for a few years and it just isn’t quite enough. The cap space, talent on the roster already, and loaded system gives us flexibility to make some unexpected moves to change things up a bit. I’m cool with it.
Yzerman’s moves definitely seem a bit aimless compared to his later focused early work in TB. Also want to echo the wtf sentiments regarding Trotz so far. Doesn’t make sense to not dj fully commit to the tear down after buying out Duchene.
Im thinking a possibility where Pesce or Skjei will be part of a trade for a top 6 forward. Orlov takes over their role and they also bring in Tony D (bleh) via trade. Karlsson would be an interesting twist but I don’t see it happening, you’d probably be including Necas or Jarvis in a trade for him.
Getting an extension done with Pesce and then moving Skjei + pieces for a legit top 6 FWD would be ideal
Let's try "more dudes who peaked ten years ago" for $200 Alex Frustrating since the rangers have a couple of legit prospects who should be getting these spots but imperial lord Sather is imposing his will.
Lou gave Engvall and Mayfield seven year contracts LOL and signed 35 year old Varlamov for four years My god
It’s a long term type of move in case you lose the other two. Worst case you go into next year with insane depth & deal from a position of strength when you need to. Orlov is also there as a bridge to Nikishin as well.
Slavin Burns Orlov Pesce Skjei TDA Pesce and Skjei are both in the final year of their contract. One of them will definitely not be on the roster opening night.
