okay let’s do it by yards per game then

    Fred is 13th all time

let’s compare Fred’s YPC to other top rushers

he’s top 10 among RBs with over 9,000 yards

I’ve looked through and done the work before too, and he is top 3 ever in terms of 40+ yard big play runs

    Lets Go. Prestigious

I'm not arguing that Fred Taylor SHOULDN'T be in the Hall of Fame. I am arguing that Fred Taylor was absolutely not better than Derrick Henry. I'm also not even going to entertain that Willis fuckin McGahee was better than Derrick Henry. That is not even worth a response (no offense)

In this case my argument is more flimsy. I hate admitting Edge had a better career but he did.

I know and I’m arguing he absolutely is lol. Strangely, despite being across eras, Henry gets way more carries and red zone opportunities than Taylor did. The Jags passed a LOT for a 90s / early 00s team and the Titans pass very LITTLE for a 2020s team. The Jags also rotated RBs a lot more than the Titans did (probably to mitigate Taylor injuries, to be fair)

Those late 90s, early 2000s Miami teams were so ridiculous.

The RB depth chart of Edge, Portis, and McGahee might be the best we'll ever see.

Frank Gore should definitely be in the HOF over Fred Taylor

Priest Holmes was my favorite RB to watch when I was younger

    Prestigious Prestigious

Not commenting on any of the comparisons here but Fred Taylor was a beast whose career numbers were hurt by being “Fragile Fred”. But I saw a lot of his highlights back in the day and yes fantasy football existed and he was damn good.

Same goes for Jimmy Smith. Dude would have had 10 1000 yard seasons in a row if not for injury costing him some games in the 7th season.

It cannot be stressed enough that Fred played in a division / era with *two* of the best defenses of the last 3 decades during his prime, and in the process absolutely dominated both of them. Fred still holds the record for most yards ever against the Steelers / most yards ever at the Steelers’ home stadium (including all Steelers RBs) and he had 100 yard games against Ray Lewis’s Ravens too

Frank Gore was part of that RB room too...

TE: Bubba Franks, Jeremy Shockey, Kellen Winslow Jr
WR: Reggie Wayne, Andre Johnson, Santana Moss
    OL: Bryant McKinnie

    DL: Vince Wilfork
LB: Dan Morgan, Jon Vilma, and DJ Williams
DB: Sean Taylor, Ed Reed, Mike Rumph, Philip Buchanon, Antrel Rolle

    ridiculous

On a fantasy level, the Chiefs RBs having that run of Priest Holmes-Larry Johnson-Jamaal Charles has to be one of the greatest runs ever. I think there was only one year on there where a Chiefs RB wasn’t usable

yep and it was when Larry Johnson was hurt and declining.

I had both him and Jets LaDainian Tomlinson my first year playing fantasy and I learned real quick that older players at that position are a risk lol

I might vote Dave Wannstedt to be one of the most disappointing coaches of all time. Super Bowl talent - there were times Miami defense rivaled the BAL & TB defenses that won Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson superbowls - but they kept barely missing the playoffs instead. To me Wannstedt getting out coached by Belichick was one of the biggest factors of NE becoming a dynasty

This was never my argument? I didn’t bring up McGahee I brought up Clinton Portis and MJD. And for the record I do think Henry’s better than those guys, that was more of a numbers argument that illustrates how it’s hard to adjust for era play calling differences

but in the case of Taylor he got LESS opportunities than Henry by a considerable margin and still was every bit as dangerous even if coaches weren’t gonna give 30 carries a game to a back that had two early, major, lower body injuries

Of course he didn’t rack up 2000 yard seasons in a passing offense that shared carries between RBs but on a per touch and per game basis he absolutely was an even better back than Henry

    but I agree- fuck Wannstedt
