Not sure it's a conspiracy, though, but it's Bill Simmons.

 

I'm no Simmons fan, but I don't think he's far off. Harden started making noise about possibly going to Houston around Christmas. Who knows if Philly was actually going to throw him a long-term max deal before that, but I'm sure once the Rockets chatter started those odds dropped significantly. Udoka seems like the kind of guy who wouldn't put up with Harden's nonsense, so I buy that he may have torpedoed that once he came on board. Harden calling Morey out on possibly going back on a handshake agreement is funny because that type of deal is forbidden by the CBA and in his haste to drag Morey/Philly through the mud he's also incriminating himself for participating.

 

Daryl dicked him around throughout the season, that situation had been going haywire during all of last season.

Ime didn’t think James would work with how he wants the team to play so the rockets pivoted away.

 

Harden didn't play well enough to get a max deal from anyone. The Sixers would be silly to bid against themselves because Harden thought he was promised big money
