I meeeean… is that really THAT hot of a take?

They were a play-in team that got super hot at the right time, have lost Gabe Vincent, Max Strus and will probably be losing Herro to get Dame. I get it’s recency bias to always say “team that acquires superstar is team to beat” but idk.

i think the phrasing of the headline is dumb but given what they're giving up and given on how they punt on the regular season, depending on who they face in the first round, yes, it isn't as far-fetched as it sounds. it's not like they didn't get swept in the first round in recent memory with largely the same team.

They were a top 3 shooting team the previous year that went cold during the season. They had minimal roster changes from the year before and various players dealt with injuries throughout the year.

I really don’t think play-in placing was indicative of their roster quality or shooting ability because they were literally the #1 seed the year before. Other than Herro getting hurt in Game 1 in against the Bucks they were pretty healthy entering the playoffs which made a big difference.

But a large portion of those shooters just walked out the door and the remainder will have to be shipped out to get Dams, is more my point. They’re gonna be pretty thin if they go through with this which we’ve kinda seen doesn’t work at this point.

I mean that’s fair but I really think saying they’re out in the first round is just Pierce being salty lol.

Lol probably. I do not what my countering to be implied that I think he’s a good analyst haha. I just think he’s had WAY worse takes than this one.

They could be the 1 seed and still get knocked out the first round, it just happened.

Parity is so high right now I doubt we’ll see another universal favorite for a while, even a team as strong as the Nuggets could get upset and I wouldn’t be surprised.

  13. I’d be surprised. It’s happened 6? I think times total and it took significant injuries for it to happen this year.

It’s an interesting dynamic right now, injuries are still a big factor but you also have teams resting players for the regular season more.

With the longevity of older star players increasing along the rise of younger stars, there’s more great players in the league at one time than ever before. Just the overall talent level of the league is really high.

Until expansion actually happens, the lower seeds are going to be comparatively stronger and the higher seeds comparatively weaker, from a historical perspective at least.

The second round featuring one of every seed advance may not happen again for a long time but I’d be really surprised to see all the higher seeds advance as well.

there are only like, generously, 6-8 teams in the league that can offer less than miami. yes, milwaukee is one of them.

  21. I think that's true for almost any potential trade for a star - very few teams can match what they can offer.

  22. you mean Portland doesn't want Jrue, MarJon, Grayson Allen and a 2030 first round pick that will be like #28?
