The Heat with Dame are absolutely, miles better, regardless of who they’ve lost so far lol. It’s idiotic to think otherwise. Strus and Vincent were only as good as they were because of Spoelstra’s system, I think they’re going to be very average or completely flounder with their new respective teams. Now losing Herro in a trade for Dame will hurt for sure, but they will be fine

 

if they keep herro, yes obviously. if they lose herro too, they aren’t “miles better” at all. they’re functionally the suns of the east with no depth and a top three worse than phoenix’s.

 

I'm glad Portland isn't going to immediately cave and trade him where he wants to go. I tire of the whole player empowerment thing. 97% of the league doesn't win as much as they'd like every year, and the players are getting paid either way.

 

I think people thinking Miami is going to be some juggernaut are forgetting that they were incredibly mediocre during the regular season and almost didn’t make it out of the play in tournament. Also, Dame hasn’t played a full season the last two years. Their depth has been one of their biggest strengths and they would be giving up a lot of that if they lose Hero and possibly Robinson or Martin. Sure they have potential to be great, but there are plenty of reasons to be skeptical of them.

 

They were just in the finals, without Herro, and they’ve only lost some undrafted dudes who had no business panning out the way they did. They’ll just pick up some other YMCA players and turn them into NBA caliber players lol

They would be adding a top 5 guard in the league, and even if they lose Herro, they were just in the finals without him!! I feel like I’m losing my mind

 

right but them panning out that way is the entirety of the reason they made the finals. it would be easy to say they could just reload and pick up more borderline g league guys and develop them again but considering it’s happened only once i wouldn’t necessarily bet on it.

 

The Heat with Dame would absolute be favorites in the East even without Herro / Martin and the guards they just lost. They'd be susceptible to injuries but so is every other team. If everyone is healthy adding Dame makes them incredibly hard to beat, they still have easily the best coach too.

 

there was a team that was more stacked than that miami roster the last three seasons in the east and they never made it out of the second round. “being the favorite” is meaningless lol. Spo is the only reason to, on paper, take that lack of depth seriously.

As if Portland is a FA destination lol. The stars we have had the last 20 years were all drafted. If they didn’t draft Roy, Aldridge or Dame they would’ve been completely irrelevant. I don’t see that changing anytime considering the management and the fact that Portland is no longer a cool city to move to lol

Portland could go above and beyond for Dame and it still won’t make it a desirable location for free agents. Sending him somewhere he doesn’t prefer isn’t gonna change much for them.

There’s always going to be middling “star” free agents looking for an overpay to go to markets like Portland(Grant is a great example). Same for Charlotte, Detroit, etc. Teams like that are always gonna be forced to draft and build a winner.
