I can't deal with all these commercials. It's making this literally unwatcheable. I'll just watch the highlights later.
whats hilarious is this is technically just an extended highlight reel. I think this competition was done like fourteen hours ago.
this Olympics only allowed for countries to send four athletes as a team to compete in the all around (it used to be 5), which also can qualify them for individual competitions as well as two additional who can compete solely as individuals through a different qualifying competition. so when Jade Carey qualified for the Olympics outside of the four person team, then went to qualify for the four person team, they didn’t let her on it to not lose one of the two outside spots. She’s considered a floor and vault specialist. But so is the second girl who qualified outside of the team of four. So we had six girls competing for two spots on all events. All other teams sent specialists that wouldn’t compete head to head, so we effectively shot ourselves in the foot (though we did qualify two gymnasts in every event all the same; but MyKayla Skinner deserved better than not being given a true chance as a second “individual” competitor). Five of our six gymnasts qualified for the individual all around, but only the top two get to compete because of a rule literally every country in the world is against. The one that didn’t qualify is Simone’s best friend. But she qualified for the team of four legitimately by earning the American bronze in the US nationals. So not only are the five behind Simone all extremely talented, they’re all competing against each other under the guise of competing as a team. It just gets messy.
I just watched the opening ceremonies and lol they basically did the celebrity imagine video from the start of COVID near the end. Incredibly tone deaf.
