This return to Maryland winter has broken me. I am now happy to just get 44 degrees and partly cloudy once or twice a week so I can go street busking lol

(with a mask on of course, in an area with no crowds standing around)

    The rivalry is back on

Playoff football all month > Super Bowl and then no football

NBA regular season as it starts to get boring > NBA regular season when it’s solidly boring but well before playoffs

I love it here though tbh. I am considering staying after college depending on employment

but I also gotta consider property taxes haha. I used to think they weren’t a huge deal but after crunching some numbers... I would pay at least 100k to 200k more over 20-30 years for the same price house in MD vs ATL, because the property taxes are so much more every year

I would consider Pittsburgh, dope city with CHEAP homes, but I don’t think I can deal with that much snow. Constant shoveling, nonexistent parking, and having to drive up and down steep icy hills, is when snow stops being fun and starts being terrible

Same with Chicago tbh. Chicago might be at the top of my list if I could only have its spring, summer, and fall weather. Couldn’t handle that Midwest winter though. I would legit be miserable 25% of the year and idk if that’s worth the other 75%

I think NYC, LA, and Chicago are too big for me to handle and enjoy. I generally wish Atlanta was smaller, not bigger, and I don’t think the positives would outweigh that for me

You might be surprised to find that Seattle feels every bit as big and dense as Atlanta even though it’s half the population

that shocked me when I went. They’ve really squeezed a lot of development onto such a narrow and rocky / mountainous isthmus of land. Much like San Francisco.

  11. I'm looking at a nice house in Towson that's 420k and property taxes are only 3300 a year. Maryland doesn't have high property taxes lol.

compared to Atlanta it does. Northeast be expensive af in general.

I easily spend 50% more on groceries up here. Makes me understand better why so many of my food-cultured friends are from the south while my north friends are more meager / basic about it.

Man, fajitas at a Mexican restaurant costs like $22 here. And sometimes it’s small portions.

that’s crazy talk in Florida. That better be a fancy ass Mexican restaurant with a brick wood fire grill lol

  14. I pay 7400 a year in property taxes would kill for 3300 a year

Also depends on the county. Aint nobody wanna live in Towson lol. Howard, Montgomery, and Prince George’s Counties are where it’s at. And some of Anne Arundel as well.

Howard county has the #1 schools in the country and nothing but giant country homes I can assure you those property taxes are absurd

Tbh Maryland very much is the northeast. The outskirts of Maryland aren’t and the people who have been in the countryside their whole lives aren’t, but, like 90% of the population is here because of the obscene amount of jobs between DC, Baltimore and Annapolis. It’s very much got that too busy / too important attitude of NYC and also extremely upscale and international art and culture to the point where it’s kinda pretentious haha

DC culturally and aesthetically is much more like the outskirts of NYC, or Boston, than Atlanta. Even the architecture follows much more of that Victorian / Cape Cod framework.

  24. a great month for sports tho

    Oh yes, absolutely.

Really it's just cause North Florida in April is hell on earth where your allergies cannot be subdued without needles and it'll randomly be 20 degrees for a week for no god damn reason
