he’s a good example of a dude who was lights OUT in college and never threw interceptions and was athletic as all fuck and beat the #1 pick in the championship... but ultimately was a one read QB who lacked anticipation and stayed that way. Fields is a really good comparison to that.

Oh good we've reached the part where anticipation gets repeated a bunch.

Fields throws with anticipation. Literally every damn QB does it's borderline impossible not to. Also, single read does not have anything to do with throwing with anticipation. That read can be entirely dependent ON anticipation.

And anticipation is not just a timing thing. It’s about anticipating defensive shifts. you can’t do that if you’re locked onto one read. At that point what you’re talking about is simply “accuracy”.

I said that “could” mean that depending on the context and I wanted to visit the tape but that it probably isn’t true of Clemson’s offense.

I also said that if he was cycling through reads and still getting rid of the ball quickly then that shows great anticipation.

You're using the same arguments that people who constantly bring up pro-readiness do. Also, you constantly bring up pro-readiness. You don't use that word, sure. But that's what you're talking about and that's what you often praise/criticize prospects/coaches for.

 

Yeah but just because Mel Kiper meaninglessly says that about every black quarterback because he doesn’t know what he’s talking about, doesn’t mean you can project that frustration onto me when you know I’m actually watching these quarterbacks offenses before I say that. You know that I really liked Fields before I watched more of him. You also know I’ve called a lot of white quarterbacks one read quarterbacks.

well it just feels like you know, you understandably feel dissonance with the whole media discussion around which quarterbacks are smart and which are dumb athletes, because it is racially charged. But that carries over into our discussions and that’s not how I’m approaching this at all.

Also, it feels like Watson/CMC/Anderson/Moore/etc is just such a scary combo. Robby Andersen deep with Watson is scary, Moore gets a lot of single coverage, and god help the team that gets schemed into leaving open space for CMC on wheel routes

Steelers in the mid-2010s got hammered by this the way the Saints are now. As long as you keep your franchise QB and draft well enough, the down period is only a couple of years...I'd be worried if Im a Saints fan because they've traded so many draft picks and now appear to have no obvious franchise QB
