I very strongly agree with this both for Fields and just as a general statement. So few QBs come out of college at a level to read NFL defenses at a plus or even an average level for a starting NFL QB that I think QB prospect success simplistically comes down to:

1) raw talent - do you have the base arm strength, pass accuracy, and/or mobility to be an NFL QB? (Especially accuracy) If not, the other two don’t really matter

2) landing spot/luck: if you’re drafted high, do you land on a team with a solid enough supporting cast or on the right track of a rebuild and a coaching staff that is going to bring you from high potential to actually good? Or are you just going to be thrown to the wolves for 4 years and then replaced? if you’re not, are you given an opportunity to play early and often enough on a team like that to develop?

3) work ethic/intangibles: I have no idea how to judge this one as an armchair critic but most of the greats are notorious grinders and I’m sure everyone says that about their prospects anecdotally, but are they going to actually put in the work above and beyond what’s expected of an NFL level QB to fully grasp the game?

 

Jones and Lance are 3a and 3b for me tbh
