  1. If Darnold is just slightly above average we have a good enough team to win 10 games.

For sure. I think Claypoologht end up being a WR1 but as it stands today they’re all WR2s (plus Washington).

    there is one way out

Fun fact: This year was the first draft since 2011 that the Steelers didn’t take a WR. (2010 was the Antonio Brown/ Marcus Wheaton draft)

They drafted 11 WRs during those years.

    edit: I mean Emmanuel Sanders.

It was actually Emmanuel Sanders. Wheaton was 2013.
Had those two players mixed up.

Going off the top of my head, its also a near universal list of hits (save for 7th rounders)...either because they were good and re-signed, good and left in FA and gave back a 3rd/4th comp pick, or got traded for higher than their draft value. Even the dudes who were busts in the league got us back picks. I think Dri Archer is the only out and out bust...and he was drafted less as a WR than a return man

edit: And Limas Sweed was just before this time....so, once a decade the Steelers whiff laughably on a top 100 WR pick.

Probably why they’ve gotten so much better at drafting, it felt like they were trying too hard with those reaches and they’ve just taken the best player the last few years.

Oh whoops, forgot about artie burns lol there’s always a random pick where they’re reaching and that player stinks

Lol one of the funny takeaways from the Patriots draft this year is “good on Bill for finally just drafting well regarded prospects at either good value or appropriate value and not drafting another Tavon Fucking Wilson”

Didn’t they do that the last few years, though? They had that one draft everyone loved but none of the players ended up very good, I think lol

it was the 2019 draft I was thinking of, oof

Lol the general consensus was if there was a QB available at 15, Bill would pass because playing checkers is dumb if you can TRY and play chess. I was so strapped in for a combo
Of Zaven Collins and Davis Mills haha

It just would be so like Belichick to say “I don’t need to take the best QB available, because the 3rd best one is 75% as good at 60% the price.”

I’m just glad he didn’t go crazy and just let the obvious picks be the obvious picks instead of trying to outsmart everyone.

Dri Archer and Sammie Coates look to be the biggest whiffs of the bunch (there are others that didn’t make the team or whatever, but they were 5-7 rounders). Most were starters for a time with us or netted us something in return.

Is that rule still in place where you can call guys up from the practice squad, or was that just a last year COVID thing?

I seem to be the only Patriots fan who is determined to have Bledsoe and Sherman make the team.

I also seem to be in the minority who prefers Keene to slide over to a skilled FB type role and move on from Johnson
