I think the spin for every draft pick absolutely is "we had him rated top 10 but got him at 25, what a miracle!"...but if you actually looked at teams boards, they'd have that guy at 20 and the top 19 gone. Or like #18 is there but its Mac Jones and they have Justin Herbert.

Its only with shitty owners tampering that you see them throw away their board in the 1st round and take what keeps their jobs. And then maybe after Pick 100, an outspoken scout who has a guy rated #80 in his mind who you can get at pick #130 can get something done. But I agree they are mostly following down the board, only occasionally slightly reaching for need if whats available is "we already have the starter and backup for"

Its why every team is celebrating their pick...Steelers had Najee Harris as one of 8 guys they were 100% not trading out of their pick for, and they got him.

Every team got every player they wanted, wild. I’d love to hear of a team who got bobbed during the draft and their coach lost his shit lol

Is there anywhere you can publicly see teams draft boards of past drafts? I’d love to compare two or three from the same year to see how much variance there really is.

the Colts do something every year where they walk the media through their draft board in a closed door meeting after the fact and explain why they felt the way they did about certain guys

for regular people to see, I have never heard of that being accessible info

That article is so stupidly written

The Minnesota passing offense was the fourth-most efficient attack in the league in 2019 and the 10th-most efficient last season. Yet, in Cousins' three years with the Vikings, they’ve been to the playoffs only once and won one game. How is this possible?
The Vikings have done everything right the past two offseasons to support Cousins, and now he must repay them.
If both of these things are true, than the only reasonable conclusion is that Kirk Cousins made so many mistakes at crucial times that it cost them 12 more games than the play of Patrick Mahomes in KC...since the pass attack is otherwise very efficient and they've done everything right to support him.

Or maybe drafting OL isnt gonna matter because they had the 4th worst defense last year and their big offseason splash was paying the corpse of Patrick Peterson big money

There are a lot of really dumb analytics takes in football these days, somehow it’s always kurt they’re pushing for mvp. Somewhere alex smith is seeing that and wondering why he didn't get the same mvp articles.

Alex Smith’s best season as a starter probably would slot in as Cousins’ 5th or 6th best season (and Cousins has started 7 seasons)

People suck at talking about Kirk Cousins because they either try to call him a top 5/franchise QB, which he’s not and never will be or they try to say he is comparable to a game manager or an average or below average QB, which he is also not. He is just an above average, borderline top 10 QB

I would call Cousins a middle of the pack QB who is fortunate to have receivers. But he’s definitely “pretty good”.

Cousins is just average to me, he does nothing that sticks out to me

I’m never scared of Cousins. I’ve watched him play a lot in the division and above average is fair statistically but in-game it feels like he’s very rarely the reason the Vikings win while often being the reason they lose. Take this with a grain of salt though, he was the quarterback for Michigan State when some of my least favorite high school acquaintances were going there and I put up with a lot of people saying he should start over RGIII from the second WFT drafted him.

His WFT days might argue otherwise; he drug 1000yd seasons out of two guys who haven't been relevant NFL WR's since. He had talent for sure, but, its not hard to argue he elevated it either.

He honestly strikes me as the same category as a Stafford or Big Ben. The talent to win you games, also the ability to outright lose you a game 1 or 2 times a season, but a bar above the Goffs of the world, which might well be the difference between losing in the playoffs or winning a SB.

I mean, we saw Dalton have that kind of start to a year a while back where people were talking MVP...so I guess its not impossible for Cousins, but, in a world where Rodgers/Mahomes/etc exist, I just dont see it

Kurt is somehow the most medium quarterback that’s stuck between being really good and really sucking

I’d take him over Goff/Dalton/Bridgewater so he’s probably around the end of the top 10 but (no surprise) I’d take Staffy every day everything else being equal

Weird. The refs seemed to think he didn’t catch it and the Steelers lost that game as I recall.
