I mean, one direct reason is that he got benched for Ryan Fitzpatrick, which obviously doesn't look great.

But I'm mostly seeing it from Jets fans who have nothing else going for them

 

In those games where he got benched (DEN and LV), the offense was definitely not good enough. But rookies have bad games sometimes.

 

Yeah most Tu’a criticism is wayyyy jumping the gun.

y’all realize he didn’t really have a full offseason with Miami because of injury rehab right? Y’all realize he had a WR corps that can very easily be argued as the worst in the league right? Those things would be tough on any rookie and he still wasn’t even that much of a liability

 

I would have fucking KILLED for Davante Parker.

 

It’s silly that Blake Bortles legit had better receivers and was fully healthy, and yet he got benefit of the doubt for an 11 TD: 17 INT rookie season... while 11:5 Tu’a and fuckin 37:11 Gardner Minshew are already being trashed as if they don’t still have potential to start for somebody

 

I wonder what’s gonna happen with Gardner Minshew. Feels like you may as well keep him if Teddy B only fetches a 6th. Maybe WFT gives up a 4th?

 

WFT or New Orleans pls. Shit, I’d root for WFT if they got Minshew... but then Minshew would probably become a better QB under Sean Payton

I legitimately think Winston would have a couple multiple INT games... Minshew would come in and start playing efficient football and letting Kamara / Thomas do all the heavy lifting... and Winston would never get that starting job back.

I really don’t think Minshew was hurt to the point where he couldn’t play. Jax sat him 8 games last season for a reason haha. I do actually think he would’ve done what he can to protect his job (as any athlete would) and won us out of Trevor Lawrence / Zach Wilson if he played those games that Jake Luton / Mike Glennon almost won.

(Let it be known I am glad we tanked and got Lawrence though. You don’t pass up that opportunity if you know your team sucks and needs to start over. I just think Minshew ain’t done and will get another opportunity somewhere else.)

I know we like lumping all QBs that are loosely in the same tier together (see: all the ridiculous Cousins = Jimmy G stuff from earlier), but Darnold is like if Wentz had his terrible year last year for 3 straight years and never had a good year

Joe Brady is betting on himself big time, for that organization to take Darnold instead of Fields.

 

Imagine the 2017 Jags with even just a “pretty good” defense though.

I would definitely say the defense being so elite gave us 4 wins that season. There were absolutely 4 games in 2017 where the defense scored at least one touchdown and forced at least two turnovers. And 2+ turnovers that really swung the momentum happened in both the BUF and PIT playoff games as well. so....

I know he got hurt last year, but how was he leading up to that?

 

The offense did get instantly better and they won that lv game when futz came in though.

I think the Tua haters are mostly off base but I hope I'm wrong and they're right

 

while fair, the 'plays' that Fitz made in the LV game were:
1) a short dumpoff pass to Gaskin who broke a bunch of tackles and ran 50+ yards for a TD
2) an absurd hail mary attempt where LV broke coverage along the sidelines while getting his head twisted around

 

Yeah I just watched it because the browns clinched a playoff berth if the dolphins lose and I’m just screaming “what are you doing?!” At the raiders

 

He made a bunch of wow plays, especially his rookie year, but also blew coverage a lot and never really made it past being a really athletic playmaker with a ton of potential. I think he’d be worth a shot (especially if Miami runs any single high safety stuff, which he seemed to be better in than Cover 2), but I’d expect a safety off the bench with upside whenever he’s healthy as opposed to a high level starter
