yeah, I think after watching the Dolphins WRs struggle to get open all year, I hear you

I do like Golladay a lot, but I need guys who get separation

 

40 time does not matter when it comes to separation.

If it did, Stephen Hill would be an All Pro receiver instead of an Enterprise Rent-A-Car assistant manager.

 

its not a useless metric. It can say a lot about a person’s short range burst. Players with good long speed but poor burst don’t run good 40 times.

 

It’s not everything when it comes to separation, but again, ARob’s technique has to be THAT MUCH BETTER than a shifty, explosive WR in order to get the same separation, and then that separation doesn’t last as long so the QB has to be “on it” with anticipation throws

ARob’s technique is elite but his lack of speed is still a limitation.

 

This one strikes mes as especially important because now you are losing your "keep the franchise valuable even if we suck" guy. Like, Bruce Allen was a trash GM, but he kept the Redskins fairly valuable in a way that kept Snyder from facing a revolt among minority owners. If the Texans see ticket prices plummet and side revenue streams fall, this goes down in a heap mighty quick

 

Keenan Allen is the best route runner in the NFL and some of the posters here might be faster than him in a straight line.

There's obviously different ways to gain separation, but elite route running is the best way to get open. 40 time's got nothing to do with it.

Fans are hoping for that last part, but NFL teams feel so insular they will make money regardless, so we really wonder how hard they will feel the effects next season without Watson and Watt... there literally will not be a face of the franchise for the first time. They've already lost fans to the Cowboys, Saints, etc. through the years.

 

Yeah, I dont see it either, especially when LT isnt the Dolphins biggest need and the cost is so high contract wise.

I don’t think you have to run 4.3 to be a fast WR, and you’re right that a lot of getting open is just mind games and technique.

but there is a limit, or a threshold so to speak. Once you run like 4.58 or slower then you have to be REALLY smart to get those open looks. Because now there’s linebackers and safeties that can keep up with you.

There are super smart slow-ish receivers, like ARob and Allen, but they are rare

 

Jakeem Grant is one of the fastest dudes in the NFL and he can't get open for shit

 

None of my posts have stated that a fast 40 time means you’ll automatically be a good route runner

that’s a false equivalency and not the point I am making

 

Being fast makes good route running much more dangerous, is how I would put it. Whereas the slower you are, the more likely it is you’ll run a great route and still get smothered.

bad route runners never get open regardless of speed

 

@Night Channels is not wrong Keenan Allen is molasses slow and is constantly open because of elite route running.

 

Could have sworn after the Stafford trade people were saying he only had Megatron as a good teammate and now I see Golladay being talked about as a legit #1? Maybe I’m mixing things up lol

i am getting so, so, so, so, so bored of the daily monotonous deshaun watson discourse that happens on NY sports radio.

 

He’s had good wide receivers but that’s really all the help he’s had. I think people are pointing to the jarring lack of any running game or defense as reasons he hasn’t had post season success

 

So tell them you’re bored of it lol

 

I stopped listening to local radio as well because itll be another 2 months of the same shit before its closer to the draft

that's when something will happen one way or another

 

Maybe a week before the draft, maybe the day of, maybe next season when caserio won’t have to try to trade him to the jets and dolphins to rebuild

 

can't listen to local sports radio anymore after having SiriusXM for so long

NFL Radio and the Fantasy sports channel are basically all I listen to if I don't have music on

 

If you have sirius there’s really no reason to listen to sports stuff, there’s way better shows out there
