Keep in mind, my favorite baseball player currently is a psychopath who cut up his teams jerseys because he thought they were uncomfortable. I think the best of the best have to be just a little bit psycho.

Like, excuse the fuck out of me Trevor Lawrence but so far Gardner Minshew has had a more successful NFL career than you so maybe you should have at least soooomething to prove.

Did y’all actually read the Lawrence article or just the clickbait title?

I’m reading it now. His approach is actually pretty mature and he’s also not putting additional pressure on himself. He seems like he’s already got the confidence in himself to brush off the media hype and criticism, and just focus on how he’s gonna improve his game this week.

I actually prefer that he doesn’t feel a need to “prove” anything because that would be him chasing a hype that is unrealistic, and getting distracted by lofty expectations is a good way to lose your humility / presence of mind. I think he’s likely to understand he still has a ways to go to become a good NFL QB and isnt crowning himself early.

Everybody’s different. Some people succeed by beating themselves up when they make a mistake, by using anger to motivate them. Other people, that’s counter productive and the calmer their mindset is the better they perform. Lawrence sounds like he’s definitely the latter

 

Why would I bother to read the article?

 

I agree, it's unrealistic hype he performs like an NFL QB.

 

Like. tom Brady got drafted 199th overall and never looked like an NFL quality QB prospect at Michigan. Of course he has a chip on his shoulder cause he actually did have something to prove.

Lawrence has literally already proven what an NFL prospect needs to prove to get an opportunity to start on a team. I would say that now, for him, it’s more important to block out the noise and focus and be real about what he needs to work on. Trying to prove more than that would be getting ahead of himself - he’s got a whole offense to learn before he can claim more than a starting job.

 

Brady looked like an NFL quality QB prospect.

Consider this: #1 picks are USUALLY busts - only recent one that is still on their team currently is Baker Mayfield right? Possibly because they put too much pressure on themselves and the media attention breaks them down. Given that context I’m glad that Lawrence has a more settled and unrattled mindset and is approaching this differently.

 

Value is determined by what someone is willing to give for it. The Patriots used one of their amateur selections to draft Tom Brady into the NFL. He was an NFL quality amateur. That's just a fact.

I wouldn't say Lawrence has proved anything towards being named a starter. Obviously he's going to be QB1 but that doesn't mean he's proved he should be. He's never once played against a NFL defense. I think the idea of a rookie coming in saying they have nothing to prove is silly.

 

Why would he play with a chip on his shoulder? He’s been the number 1 pick for years. How many games has that dude even lost in his football career? Him acting like he has some chip on his shoulder would make him a dweeb

 

I think the Browns are going to be very good next year. On paper, they seem to already have an above-average player at just about every position but QB and we haven’t even made it through the draft yet

 

Brady gets a pass cause everyone hates him, denies his GOAT status, and thinks hes too old but like, imagine Patrick Mahomes being like "man no one believes in me, everyones doubting me" like shut up dude haha

 

They all do it all the time haha. I'm not even saying he has to go out there putting out hype videos about how he's doubted. But does he really need to say "I have nothing to prove" before ever even looking at an NFL field?
