Sounds like Watson's lawyer pretty much just wrapped up the whole case. Seems like it's just a matter of restitution at this point.

Not sure what theyre referring to but I listened to Hardin's presser today, it wasnt a terribly good defense, and put alot of emphasis on "he's a good guy, he couldn't do this"

He also conceded the sexual acts happened but claimed they were all consensual. Hardin has no shot. Deshaun is definitely going down at least.

Yes, I was about to post this, Hardin has conceded sexual acts have happened

Yeah that isn’t “wrapped up” in any sense of the term. And frankly there’s no longer a conceivable avenue where Watson is absolved. He’s clearly a predator and I hope these women get whatever justice they’re seeking.

Also, I'm obviously not a lawyer, but I do not like that Hardin would not accept that the plaintiffs could remain anonymous publicly but be known confidentially

That feels like a scare tactic, and it just doesn't sit well with me

Hardin even acknowledged he's heard about the two women who released their identity publicly being sent rape and death threats

    It feels gross

I am a lawyer and it is gross. It’s typical gross defense of sexual assault. Pressure the victims to be public while touting female supporters of the perpetrator as if they face the same consequences for saying nothing happened to them by this rich and popular celebrity.

what? No. The judge ruled it that way because that’s Texas’ law.

Texas doesn’t allow anonymous civil lawsuits in cases not involving minors.

That’s not true. The judge ruled that way because of how the plaintiffs attorney was trying the case in the media. The judge had discretion to not disclose, and I can’t say I blame her with the way the plaintiffs attorney has been acting. From what I can find while there is a statute specifically allowing for pseudonyms for minors Texas law does allow a case to proceed under a pseudonym in privacy-based actions if the defendant will not be prejudiced. See here as well: Court grants woman anonymity in suit alleging sexual assault
And in any event I’m not talking about the judge, I’m talking about the defense tactic of putting out a bunch of women who say Watson was great to them and saying “see we have these women come forward but the plaintiffs don’t reveal their names” as a way to make the victims seem less credible. It’s gross.

I mean it was the judges decision. You’re operating under the assumption that Watson is guilty and that it’s “gross behavior”.

it’s pretty fundamental in America to have the right to face your accuser.

They asked Buzbee for the names confidentially, he said no. I’m not going to fault the defense attorney for defending his client in any way shape or form. What is he supposed to say? Yeah I think my guy is guilty I’ll do what I can to make sure he goes to jail?

Doesn't this only apply to criminal cases?

My comment earlier was about the fact that the defense attorney said that sexual acts happened and that some of the accusers were consenting in the act, so they should be dismissed. Seems like there is a clear admission of, at least some, level of guilt. Sorting through who was violated it kind of a moot point.

The fact that he is even considered employed after yesterday is mind boggling.

You’re avoiding the tactic I was discussing for some reason. Again I said it was gross to use women coming forward saying Watson was professional with them and the fact that the women filed anonymously as a way to discredit the victims.
Also the process for Jane Doe suits never means the defense can’t confront the accuser. It just means the name is never made public in the docket and the case operates essentially under seal for the name of the accuser. It still means for example the attorney and Watson would learn the names and be able to depose the women and seek discovery on them. But again I already said I don’t fault the judge because of the plaintiffs attorneys tactics so I’m not sure why we’re still going around on this but you seem to have a misunderstanding of what happens in these cases.
And I’m operating under the assumption that 22 women aren’t lying, yes. I’m also operating under the fact that the “fundamental” American rights you reference are rooted in patriarchy and sexism. There is a reason why it has historically been so difficult for women to come forward with assault accusations, so I don’t have much sympathy for the rights of someone accused of assaulting multiple women compared to the sympathy I feel for those women coming forward and getting smeared.
