That's not relevant. It's about how he would be the ONLY option in one more versus having two other very good options. His target share would be much higher on one team versus another.

I agree with this but that doesn’t necessarily mean more production

higher target share in more tightly covered situations could end up being similar yards to lower (but still team-leading) target share in an offense where opponents can’t bracket him very often.

Yes, Randall. I'll make an avatar bet with you. I'll bet whatever team drafts Pitts finishes with a better record than whatever team drafts Chase.

Hahah that’s a far less direct litmus test than yardage totals

If the Dolphins take Pitts I'll nix the bet.

Pitts is probably the best TE prospect ever. Chase is great, but you'd be crazy to argue that he's the best WR prospect ever

They are both likely going to be great players and who is "better" probably hinges on where they end up. But Pitts gets more attention because he is more unique

Shouldn't the bet just be snap percentage? You said Pitts would come off the field a lot, if he misses 33% of his snaps for games he's healthy for, that's bad.

If I win, I get to choose what your avatar is from the end of the regular season until kickoff 2022.

If you win, you get to choose what my avatar is from the end of the regular season until kickoff 2022. Simple.

No weird shit like child brides or matt gaetz or anything but you get it.

this is logical, I’m just more so making a statement about how much more impactful WRs are to the passing game. TE mismatches literally wouldn’t exist without the threat of a WR scoring a touchdown easily against subpar man to man coverage.

A team would just put Stephon Gilmore or whatever on Kyle Pitts and bracket him with a safety all day, and even with that wing span and hand size... it’s hard to consistently win that battle physically. If you’re not an absurd route runner like Chase or Devonta is... the other team can take you out of the game if you are their primary focus.

The whole reason TEs get so open is because teams are more worried about wide receivers like Chase, who STILL get 1200-1500 yards even when they put their best guy on him AND shadow him with a safety. Now if the TE is a great blocker, then he’s a dual threat that helps you EVERY down and that can make him more valuable than a WR.

this is a point I haven’t been giving enough credit and I concede the “hype” is probably more because he carves a new role in the league and now DC’s gotta watch out for THAT too. This, I understand.

last question - in the case of injuries, do we calculate snap percentage only in the games they played?

    Just do total snaps. ezpz.

Idk I think it would be lame for either of us to lose a bet because of an injury haha. And injuries are very likely in this damn league

If you’re down for doing it as snaps per game,

and/or just nixing the bet if either of them gets hurt for the majority of the season,

    I’m down.
