The argument is, he is valuable because in running situations, he can either be adequate lining up as a TE, or split out wide with a different TE blocking on the line. And his presence lined up outside will definitely keep the defense in check, even in a running situation. He can be used very effectively in all situations. His blocking ability doesn't change that.

 

Kinda no cause you can use another tight end in the running game if you want. or you can just use pitts and be fine

The “line him up outside to pull guys out of the box” bit is exactly what you would do with a WR. I don’t see how that makes him more beneficial to the running game than Ja’Marr Chase

I don't even know what to say at this point really.

If Pitts is an elite receiver, and Chase is an elite receiver, and you can do more with Pitts, why is he a worse pick than Chase?

 

Yes, but the difference is, Pitts CAN adequately block on the line if you need him to do so. Chase cannot.

I'm not arguing to take Pitts over Chase universally. It depends on the situation. But it's the rare versatility that you see from Pitts that potentially makes him special.

 

And the Bengals already have two very good receivers*
And the draft is very deep in the kind of WR3 they want*

Pitts has great production but still never came close to what Ja’marr chase did in 2019, against CB1s play after play, as a 19 year old in his only full season as a starter

 

What I'm understanding is if Randall was stuck in the woods and he could have his choice between a fire starter or a fire starter / 25% effective insect repellent he'd take the normal fire starter.

Chase is going to have a bigger impact and more production on his team. Hence why I would take him sooner if all other things are equal.

 

Chase getting 1300 yards vs Pitts getting 1000 yards doesn't mean Chase is better or makes a bigger impact on his team.

This is entirely dependent on where they all go.
Chase goes to Miami where he's WR1, 2, and 3 vs. Bengals where he has two other receivers to compete with

 

I think Chase would easily be WR1 in Cincy. Maybe not the first couple weeks but if he stays healthy, by the end of the season it’ll be obvious he’s better than Boyd
