I never said they “should” draft Toney but it would be a very Meyer pick and a very awesome pick hahaha

Like, in my opinion Toney has something that’s pretty hard to find. I’m okay with using one of our 10 picks to splurge on him while we have a chance to get a unique weapon like that if the best IDL / T are gone

Meyer has made zero picks haha. We have no clue what a Meyer pick is

It fits how Meyer has liked to use receivers in college.

So does Laviska Shenault though haha

Theyre very different and having both would be awesome. I’d love Lawrence to have two easy slot targets, one that is a tough ball carrier who can run people over... and one that can take bubble screens to the house / gets so wide open it’s hilarious sometimes

yes it’s more luxury than need but fuck it we are a couple years from competitive anyways. I’d see that as Meyer building his future offense in his image. No one said Marvin Jones was long term. It’s a two year contract with an out after the first year.

putting Lawrence in an absolutely bonkers offense is a legitimate path to development as a team, why not accept the fact that we’re still gonna have holes no matter what and just try to put up some serious points haha. I’d agree with need being more important if we were a few needs away from being a complete team but we aren’t.

Good news - this draft is FLUSH with slot targets.

Receiver has one of the shortest learning curves. If we're a couple of years away from competing then it makes even less sense.

Meanwhile I’m sitting over here stoked for the next season of the Allen / Diggs / Beasley / Singletary Bills offense.

That’s really not always true; the statement you made about WRs. I don’t think you can assume that. Every position is challenging to adjust to.

and yeah I mean we can get an average slot target any year or we can get Toney who has literally made 7-8 players miss with two moves before. I know you’ve seen that highlight and it’s not even abnormal for him to sense guys coming from behind like that.

Sure, every position is challenging and receiver is one of the least challenging. Both can be (and are) true.

You have to say average simply to diminish the otherwise completely valid point lol Yeah, and a lot of Toney's highlights are not NFL plays too haha. NFL players aren't as horrendous at tackling as college players.

You are saying that with no basis. Receivers have to learn to read coverage just like quarterbacks do. Working on varying your release at the line / your route stem is also a career long process as well, and a reason why for example it took Davante Adams time to develop.

However, you can’t teach, or learn, elusiveness like that. That shit is an instinct (mixed with elite burst and agility.)

Yes college players are sometimes terrible at tackling. Toney still made shit happen that is nearly impossible at that level.

I'm not though, receivers routinely make an impact their rookie season in ways that most other positions do not. All you're doing is explaining the problems they face, you aren't actually comparing them to other positions.

I'm aware he's elusive. Doesn't really matter haha

if this were true then he would at least lead the class in missed tackles.

“I’m aware he’s elusive” lol okay we can just stop cause you’re being a brick wall

would he, playing in the best-tackling conference in college football?

  17. CarpetElf

chorus's #3 oklahoma city comets fan Prestigious

that's not being a brick wall. that's you telling me the first thing everyone knows about him like it's new information haha

Also that missed tackles number is obviously gonna be owned by a runningback, who gets way more touches in tight spaces. Isn’t it Javonte Williams?

There is no "best tackling conference", you're pulling things out of your ass now lol

  20. Randall Mentzos

When you hit a mothafucka, you hit that mothafucka Prestigious

no. It’s you being dismissive to the idea that his elusiveness is really rare and not imitable by whatever fourth rounders you suggested

lmfao the SEC plays the most disciplined defense and it’s not close. Please don’t tell me you’re going to deny this common knowledge just to oppose my point. This is why I’m kinda done with this argument already

  22. CarpetElf

chorus's #3 oklahoma city comets fan Prestigious

I don't think missed tackles by a wide receiver is obviously owned by a runningback.

Big Ten actually places a higher premium on these things.

You know why you had to phrase it that way? Becuase they’re not actually better at tackling in the trenches than the SEC and never have been

  25. CarpetElf

chorus's #3 oklahoma city comets fan Prestigious

You didn't say better in the trenches. You didn't say disciplined defense. You said best at tackling. Which is something you have no way of measuring anyway.
