I’ll still be very shocked if SF goes Mac Jones. In my mind it’s definitely Fields or Lance. My gut tells me Lance to SF and Fields at pick 4 (either to Atlanta or someone else.)

The part that makes me believe it is the Panthers trading for Darnold. The name I heard the most for Carolina was Jones. Now that he is seemingly not available we move on from the rookies? It’s just kinda adds up for me. I could easily be wrong but that’s just the sense I get from everything.

 

it’s a fair outlook... but I also think the reason you kept hearing Jones for Carolina, is because the other 4 prospects are really good and Carolina wasn’t ever trading up haha

 

If Jones goes to SF at 3 I 100% think Shanahan knows what he’s doing and there’s a reason he’s going that early. Would be interesting tho

 

I just think Kyle Shanahan really shocked the league with RG3 and if he didn’t get hurt we’d be talking about him like Lamar Jackson. It just “fits” to me that he’d go for Lance or Fields. Lately he keeps trying to turn average pocket QBs into bootleg, on-the-run passers and it ain’t working.

of course he also had Matt Ryan but that wasn’t a QB he CHOSE. He just landed in a place with an amazing offense that happened to have a more pocket oriented QB.

I especially think they like Lance because he actually did a lot of specific things PASSING the ball in that NDSU offense that he’d be asked to do at SF. A lot of similar pocket movement and pre snap read-based motion and naked bootlegs, etc. On top of being a QB who is fast and breaks tackles.

 

Like, to me Shanahan’s specialty is a pocket and formations that are always moving around, and quick, well-planned, west coast reads throwing the ball.

that’s EXACTLY Trey Lance’s skillset

 

In the 6D world of draft chess, you smokescreen Mac Jones so that no team tries to trade with the Jets to get Fields or Lance. Of course, that assumes the Jets are fine with any of the top 3 or the risk that San Fran then takes Wilson and they get left at #4 with the awkward choice between Lance/Mac or not taking a QB...

But truthfully, I gotta imagine the Jags and Jets are pretty locked in, so not sure there's actually any value.
