it’s not mental gymnastics. I’m not making this up. It’s from watching Ohio State plays. They take advantage of having a stupid fast Qb behind an elite line and constantly call plays that are literally a combination of a screen on one side and an X receiver running a route on the other. Deciding to throw the screen because the X receiver isnt open is not two reads. That’s an automatic, easy decision because the Y receiver on a screen is going to be open almost every time.

genuinely fucking hysterical that randall is discrediting people who have watched every snap of every game because he's seen some games on youtube

Sounds like something that would never actually work in the NFL to me

Stat collection is very flawed man, especially concepts like “multiple read progressions”. It’s far too easy to just say “oh he looked left AND right multiple reads!”

Isn’t what you’re describing just a basic RPO which is the foundation of like 85% of teams playbooks at this point haha

NFL RPOs incorporate multiple reads on a regular basis. Not all of them but some of those plays are handoff, run, OR throw and it’s based on anticipating the coverage, not staring at a receiver until you’re sure he isn’t open

Okay but for however flawed it is, you're literally saying you know better based off a smaller and incomplete sample size lol. And you're also assuming how they recorded things to fit your narrative.

$2000 this is responded to by making an excuse as to why Fields can't do this

I was on the Jimmy G train, but now I’m all the way on the trade up for Fields train hava

I watched 8 Ohio state games friend. If they were doing that most of those 8 games that’s a pretty good sample size to be able to say Lawrence had progressions way more often than Fields and that stat doesn’t say what you think it does

No, I gave a legitimate explanation why staring down a receiver for 3 seconds and then giving up and throwing a screen is not the same as a fast-decision RPO that requires pre-snap reads and then reading the post-snap shift in less than a second

yeah that's cool and 100 percent not remotely what is being discussed

Who is arguing Lawrence vs Fields though?

Literally the tweets ranked offenses in terms of how many one read plays they had and it had Fields last and Lawrence seventh to last lol I’m sorry but someone is not collecting that stat properly

    1. the stat we have been arguing about was the percentage of screens.
    2. that tweet literally does not rank offenses in terms of amount of plays

    please read THEN type.

The only argument I’m making is if you draft a guy who is really good at a specific list of things, you should probably scheme him into those situations as much as possible, and if you succeed at that, you should succeed on offense. I do not think you should draft a guy and ask him to do things he’s bad at because that’s what other quarterbacks are good at. That’s silly to me and a fireable offense.

Sorry my bad, PFF grade* on throws past first read

Yeah, no surprise Fields is the highest considering his second “read” is usually a bubble screen

and now reading back and seeing its a PFF grade kinda solidified my point about stat collection being flawed... because we’ve discussed before in this thread that’s why their grades are so inconsistent with reality

I always love coming back to these and seeing how things shift but man, @Night Channels was more on the other than usual this time.
