    The rivalry is back on

can I do Lawrence, Smith, Bateman, Marshall and just not take a RB?

or better yet, can I do Lawrence, Wilson, Fields, Jones and trade the other 3 QBs away for the entirety of the 2022 draft?

this says nothing about how often it happened. It’s easier to have higher efficiency ratings if you do it less. Not to mention, often his second “read” is a schemed open bubble screen or short hook that’s an obvious decision if his first read isn’t there.

like we don’t have to pretend he has skills he doesn’t have lol. He is a high potential QB with ridiculous raw talent, sure. He’s not better at going through progressions than Trevor Lawrence though lmao

    Screen Percentage:

    Lawrence - 24%
    Wilson - 12%
    Fields - 10%
    Lance - 8%
    Jones - 20%

Yeah, Ohio-State’s one read plays that used screens as checkdown / RPO options are conveniently excluded from both narratives. Because it’s not ENTIRELY a screen play, but it’s not an actual two read play either

By the end of this draft, Fields is gonna be my favorite player and Pitts is gonna be my least favorite.

I’m just saying, it would be easy to underrepresent how many screen options Ohio State called and over represent how many times Fields had more than one decision to make...

because of the design of that offense having a one-read play MIXED with a screen, in case Fields stares down the receiver and he still doesn’t get open. It’s actually kinda genius, make it look like he’s scanning the field / looking off safeties but really the play is very simple and relies on one dude getting open

Plus, if they don't count for Fields then that means they don't count for everyone.

I always side with Matt on this argument for one simple reason.

if a prospect is good at ABC things and bad at XYZ things, your job as a coach is to do as many ABC things as possible, and hope maybe they develop an x or a y along the way. Who drafts someone and then asks them to do exclusively things they’re bad at? Soon-to-be-fired coaches do.

Yes because their usual style of play calling fits into a weird category. People won’t classify it as a screen because there’s a “primary” route; people will classify him throwing to the screen as his “second read” when he really only looked at one defender

you can’t compare apples to oranges though. Different skills are variably hard to learn / teach and coaches are variably effective or ineffective at teaching those things. I say he has the “traits” all damn day long.. but still hasn’t even sniffed the pro-level stuff that requires long term tutelage. There is a such thing as having a running start when it comes to learning those concepts, which Lawrence and Wilson have and Fields doesn’t

This is a stunning display of mental gymnastics. You have no clue how they're classifying screens and reads, you're just making this jump to fit your narrative.

Randall, I’m gonna ask you the same question I ask everyone...why can’t fruit be compared?
