I think you’re probably right but I also kinda hope you’re not. That team has drafted a pass catcher in the first two rounds in 4 of the past 5 years, and has drafted a defender in the first two rounds in 2 of the past 5 years. At a certain point, you’ve gotta be good with what you have and develop guys like Auden Tate or a mid-round pick this year to fill a WR3 role

The board doesn’t set itself up well for it, but they badly need to invest on that side of the ball via the draft

If I were them I wouldn't have signed Reiff and taken Sewell. Or taken the Dolphins' offer to move down (assuming it was offered) because that gets them in reasonable range for some defensive players

I kinda feel like them signing Reiff indicates they’re taking Chase. Even though by all means Sewell + a FA WR would have been better. But also keep in mind JaMarr Chase would also be drafted as successor to AJ Green.

it really is an ideal way to replace Green by giving Burrow his favorite target. And this T class is deep enough to where taking a solid guy in the second or trading back into 1 for a quality one is doable.

 

yeah - it’s hard, because the value is clearly there to take a pass catcher or Sewell (and I don’t hate taking him and shifting Williams inside) and they get a really talented player, but after taking a guy like Chase, they go from a team with intriguing skill position players that has a Swiss cheese defense and might get Burrow killed to a team with VERY intriguing skill position players that has a Swiss cheese defense and might get Burrow killed

You can make the same argument with OL too - they’ve taken first round linemen in 2 of the past 3 drafts and Sewell would make that 3 of 4. Somehow, that has GOT to stop being a liability and you need more Michael Jordans to be passable players (and for your picks to not bust) so you can address the other side of the ball
