Alualu's kids when they heard dad might be taking them out of the Pittsburgh school system and moving them to Florida...

You know, I may be biased against Alualu and not like the signing on principle.

In reality im still salty that we used the 10th overall pick on him, because that was during Shack Harris’s series of ATROCIOUS moves as Jags GM that took us from playoff team to laughing stock. I realize that my bias against Jags drafting UF players also comes from giant bust Derrick Harvey being drafted to the same defensive line with the 8th overall pick. Imagine spending high picks on two DE in a row (plus FA signings and Quentin Groves) to make up for losing John Henderson... and still ending up with one of the worst defensive lines in the league.

but truth be told I’m happy as fuck for Alualu that he finally reached a situation where his family is happy and he’s a good player on a pretty solid football team. Good for him to stick with what’s working.

After doing some more scouting, and studying his pro day, I firmly have Lance above Fields and Jones, and might bet money that’s who SF is taking

that NDSU offense directly does Kyle Shanahan things... and did weird TE leak / empty bootleg type shit at his Pro Day as part of their tailored routine for the “QB needy teams” who attended.

@uuu we are allowed to disagree but I think you’re being too hard on Lance. #SBTF is a bad bit that @Night Channels goes overboard with, but the overall sentiment I agree with more than I agree with “who’s getting fired over Lance?”

Comparing to Wentz, the other high NDSU prospect

    Lance has better:
    -pocket movement,
    -composure
    -athleticism
    -Arm Strength
    -Ball Placement
( in terms of decisions, not necessarily execution)
-Gets rid of the ball quick

    Wentz had better:
-Accuracy (Lance is accurate to the sideline but very hit or miss over the middle)
-Elusiveness (Lance is a better runner because of power and reading blocks, almost like a poor man’s Lamar Jackson - but he doesn’t have Wentz’s spin move or sack escaping skills)
-Improv skills / splash plays (unlike most scramblers, Lance’s game is very planned)
-Touch (Lance loves bullets a little too much)
    -Anticipation

Similarly, they both went through multiple read progressions pretty fast for college QBs. Despite the lower level of competition, NDSU certainly calls a healthy amount of pro style looks. This is the main area where Lance grades far above Fields. Fields didn’t HAVE to read progressions but as I’ve said, it’s just a really hard thing he’s gotta learn from scratch whereas Lance already has the pre requisite knowledge. In this respect I think Lance is further along in his development even despite playing much lower level of completion.

If I’m nitpicking, however, I would not say Lance throws with anticipation very often. His timing is slightly late on timing routes, and he’s more likely to try to move the safety away from the route he wants with his eyes, than anticipate route combinations. He flashes it once in awhile but nowhere near the level of Lawrence or Wilson. Anyone I’ve seen saying Lance has anticipation is really just talking about timing - he’ll throw out routes early against man coverage or a cover 3 sideline zone, but not when the correct read is less obvious. He’ll need to learn that but that’s pretty common, and it’s one of the things Kyle Shanahan knows how to simplify / avoid with a less developed QB.

Wentz and Lance also have some similar issues!
-overconfidence, throwing the ball anyway when the defense shifts unexpectedly and expecting to be able to fix it by adjusting ball placement. In the NFL, with the speed of NFL safeties and linebackers, sometimes that window is just closed and you can’t force it like that. Lance only threw one pick his whole college career, but a lot of inside posts could’ve been picked by a better / faster safety.

-not protecting themselves running the ball, using their throwing shoulder to break tackles and shit

-throwing mechanics - while Lance has cleaner feet in the pocket, when he throws the ball he similarly widens his stance and cocks the ball back. Wentz never fixed this flaw and it’s the main reason he’s now more of a liability who fumbles so much.

It seems like the steelers could have been right about nelson, if he was that good he would’ve been on a team by now. Maybe they’re right that sutton will be better.

Also, they listed a QB from perennial 10-6 or better team (that went to the SB in 2018) in the Rams, a QB from a team that won a SB (and nearly did so again the next year) in the Eagles, and a QB who got the WFT their only 10-6 season since Joe Gibbs. Tampa and Tennessee stayed put, got Winston and Mariotta, and both of them flopped as hard as a Darnold or Trubisky. Im not sure "trading into the top 3" is what caused their failures.

And yeah, kind of weird to limit it to the Top 3 when the trade for Mahomes and Watson cost their teams more (both costs 2 1sts) than the Trubisky trade (1st/3rd/4th/future 3rd)

The Rams went to a Super Bowl and the Eagles won a Super Bowl. Say what you will about the players but neither of those things happen without drafting those two guys. I’d call that successful

The more honest graphic title would be: results or investing all your resources into bad quarterbacks haha.

Idk if anyone would judge the chiefs if they gave up 85 firsts for Mahomes lol.
