Like, I wont blink at the guy who managed to get the WFT to also take Kirk Cousins after taking RG3 in the same draft, and how right he clearly was....but that would be the best online reaction ever if they did that

The beauty of having future cap space and knowing your team is F'd the day Brady leaves, so you can sign Gronk to a deal that pays him $8mil, but 80% of it hits future cap years.

Though I do honestly believe Brady would have 0'd out his salary to get dudes back

Didn't Brees do that? That should be illegal tbh.

Someone posted a cap pyramid years ago and it was like the perfect way to deal with the cap / parity.

Hey, no pressure, but is this a thing you could do tomorrow? He said he’s going out of town Sunday thru Wednesday. If not we can probably just do it next week.

Funniest part is it kind of worked out for everyone. BAL and TEN still got good tackles, and Stanley is so good that BAL's other elite tackle wants out because he knows he'll never get to take over at LT.

So you weirdly get to thank Adam Gase for rebuilding your damn franchise

I'd have to get back to you on doing it tomorrow, I'd bank on next week. I'll be up near there next Sunday anyway.

Everyone is saying this. Feels like a "where there's smoke..." situation. A couple people said a while back if anyone wants Lance they better take him at three. Here we are.

If you believe in a guy enough, you don't sit back and wait. SF didn't have a chance at any of the QBs at 12.

It's super aggressive and could be a devastating blow to their franchise, but what if Jones is the pick and he's a franchise QB for them?

Shanny could draft me and SF would win 10 games. He's in an elite tier IMO.

He's earned the right to make a move like this and take the QB that he wants.

It's an all-in move similar to the one Maccagnan made that landed him Sam Darnold. With the Jets, we saw the negative impact a trade like this can have on a franchise.

Yeah I messaged him. Fingers crossed he doesn’t suddenly act weird about it.

So, if memory serves he did that, but I think it was so it would minimize his cap impact in the immediate? It was some weird technical thing versus that probably doesnt really matter in the end (he still counts the same in dead cap money and was 10000% getting cut).

Stuff like the Gronk contract should be illegal. An actual 1yr/$8mil deal with an option bonus paid out over 5yrs on the cap is insanity. I know they did some stuff in the one CBA update where salaries couldnt rise by more than X% year to year to try and stop some of this, but, then I see Mahomes' contract and I know teams will just find more creative ways around any rule.

Like, outlaw Gronks contract and he signs a 5yr/$8mil deal with 5 straight years of $1.6mil guaranteed salaries and a player opt out in each year that doesnt break the guaranteed money.

31 teams could make this trade for Mac and I'd laugh but Yung Shanny is the guy who saw is franchise kill themselves for a QB and then demanded they take another in third and he was right

If a franchise is sure about Fields/Lance/Jones, this trade makes sense. It may not work out, but when you're outside of the range to land a top QB and you need one...do whatever it takes.

2022's QB class is weak too

Ultimately though, it favors the players to allow teams to fuck around. Kyle Van Noy made $15mil last year (basically a franchise tag) and his rising cap number got him cut and he goes and signs a new deal with a new signing bonus, etc. Versus the NBA where some 7' tall oaf who got paid $12mil/yr fucks up everyone's pay potential because his contract is an albatross around a teams neck.

On the one hand, we didn't have 5 top ten conversation QBs this time last year. On the other, I still am not a fan of the 2022 class.

  25. preppyak

I would pay big money to see how that went down too. Like, keep Dan happy so he can get his rocks off about making a big move...but then also say "hey, if he gets hurt, we need a good fallback for out Super Bowl caliber teams"

This is also why I was surprised there was so much talk of QBs moving teams this year. Not sure I see the value of bottoming out in a year where the #2 pick doesnt get you much when the year before it gets you a Fields or Wilson
