Also what is the point of bringing back Ben for one more run if you aren't going to do everything you can to win.

I'd rather watch Rudolph go 6-11 and get a decent draft spot than Ben go 9-8 and finish third in the division. Delaying the rebuild by a year is stupid.

yeah Dave Caldwell was awful and so was Gene Smith before him

two really fucking bad GMs in a row

 

It’s funny, I used to like Caldwell because we would get good draft picks, but I realize in hindsight that’s completely because of our draft position. Like. We only got those players because we were horrible lol. Jalen Ramsey at 5, for example, was the most obvious pick of all time.

Brandon Linder, Allen Robinson, Yannick Ngakoue were great picks but other than that he either had a stud just fall in his lap at the top of round 1-2 or otherwise made average to poor choices. I’m glad we still have Linder and Jack but can I really say Caldwell was good at drafting just because of that? Probably not

And then his free agent and contract choices were so fucking atrocious across the board that he should probably go back to being a VP of scouting or something. The role of GM is too big for that guy.
