I learned today that Jacksonville is the largest city in the country (when adding in county lines and areas that include water and whatever). Pretty interesting.

 

yeah until you realize that’s because of gerrymandering

they consolidated the government of Jacksonville - a relatively modest sized city - with the government of Duval county, the outskirts of which are a haven for white supremacists. (Yes, this is why Jags fans yell DUUUUVALLL.) This effectively prevented Jacksonville from voting democrat from like 1975 until 2020 by including a larger majority of rural people who don’t give a fuck about Jax city issues and who opposed civil rights progress / reparations.

Jax has a very large urban core / black population for such a small major city... and they have absolutely no voice.

Yeah you can be like 30/40 miles away and still be in Duval/Jacksonville. It’s fun when I go to visit my girlfriend and it says “Entering Duval” and I still have an hour left of the drive.

I'm not worked up about the Cam signing. It really means nothing beyond taking Jimmy G, Mariota, Trubisky, Dalton, and Alex Smith off the table of options. Still would have been pro trading a 3rd or 4th for JG, but that's felt unlikely to me as soon as the Stafford deal happened. Those other guys are all just as bad as Cam and for the most part would have had greater acquisition cost.

Now if the Pats don't draft a QB I'll be upset but on March 12th they can do worse than blowing 3.5 mil on a guy who'll at least has the locker room and can feign upside with a normal offseason and presumably better supporting cast.
