    I guess because I think it's a overpay.

That’s fine, it probably is, and you have every right to think that. The part that I’m objecting to is that a move that might help them make the playoffs for the first time since 2015, for the first time ever for their young QB, is only a good move if they go on a deep run. I think getting TO the playoffs should be the goal for them, and a line with Watt and Jones isn’t the worst way to get there.

Players talk! This isn't Madden. They care and they communicate.

If the price for Watt was a 6th round pick and there weren't 31 teams on the phone then there were 31 idiots running teams.

Biased, obvi. But Ian Book is better than people think! I don't think he's a franchise QB or ever turns into that but I could see him having a Brian Hoyer / Colt McCoy type career where he sticks around for a long time.

I can definitely see that and that's about where I have him graded - as a guy you take to be your back-up and feel happy you did so. I have Trask as a guy you take to develop and give a shot if you're a team like Pittsburgh or Atlanta. I think Book has a higher floor but Trask has a much higher ceiling.

Yeah this is about right, I think Book will be an okay transition guy too. Like if you're say, the Vikings or Bucs or Rams to some extent and you don't have a backup plan and your QB might move on in the near future. The Vikings should draft Book, let him learn, and if Cousins is gone in two or three years, you don't have to panic for a QB, you have a guy on the roster who could reasonably lead the tank but at the very least is worth trotting out there. I don't think anyone will be transitioning to the Ian Book era.

Yeah okay we're on the exact same page. Minny is one of the teams I have as an ideal fit for Book.

Im saying the price was never a sixth because you dont dangle the most famous player in franchise history for a pittance and risk pissing him off. And the value where he's worth trading (truthfully, a 3rd or high 4th) is something no team is offering for a 32yr old, oft injured DE who you need $17.5mil of cap space to take on (meaning a team like the Steelers or Packers cant even do it right now). So, actually there's 18 teams that couldnt even have traded for him without restructuring current players, etc.

Signing him in free agency, you can offer him 2/$31, have $7mil cap hit in 2021, like $15mil cap in 2022, and the rest be dead money dummy years that hit in 2023. If you try and trade him, you actually probably cost Watt money and have the weird news cycle of "Watt doesnt want to go to X"

Cardinals will be good next year. Their main ceiling just depends how early they send Kliff packing.

Buccaneers are probably sweating like hell over that Watt contract as they try to negotiate with Barrett and Suh haha

If the cap is real at all there has to be a year coming up where the Saints won’t be able to field a team

Yeah, and despite a receding hairline and body thats a far cry from 10 years ago, I'm gonna prioritize trying to sleep with supermodels.

Saints can keep dreaming, they have Ryan Ramcyzk, Kwon Alexander, and Marshon Lattimore...they can extend all 3 of those dudes and let all their FAs walk, or they can re-sign Williams and Winston and trade/cut two of those guys.

Nah, the way the NFL works you're never more than 2-3 years from complete cap freedom. Eagles are in worse shape than NO, in a way, cause they have a TON of money committed in 2022 too (though they'll cut a bunch of guys and free that up)

Saints are at -$70mil in cap space right now, and only have $60mil in space next year, but, the process of cutting Brees and Eason and like 5-6 more 30+ year old dudes frees up space in both years. And the restructures spread over 3-4 years, so even they dont hurt 2022 that bad.

I can get the Saints to break even this year AND having like $40-50mil in space next year...so, maybe they can keep Marcus Williams with a deal that pays him min base this year and a signing bonus of <$10mil, but with a $25mil roster bonus in 2022 or something...but, no idea why he'd sign that over a normal deal that pays him big up front
