Can a non-Jags fan explain the Leftwich thing to me? Dude won a super bowl as an OC with Brady versus a guy who won a super bowl as a HC with Foles, except Leftwich played for the Jags.

I know there's a lot more to it than that, but I have seen "Bring him home" posts about Leftwich regarding Jacksonville for months and I need to someone who isn't a Jags fan to explain why it isn't just a cute fantasy.

Jags fans liked him when he played and he seems to be a good OC even pre-Brady. The Bucs off sense was prolific even with Jameis and Fitz until Jameis or Fitz through a backbreaking int which always happened lol

That always was and always will be the problem but y'all might've ended up driving yourselves closer to Bisaccia than Leftwich with how things have been going so thank the lord you went with Doug haha

 

I've genuinely never seen people rally behind a coaching candidate like this. Khan was literally BEGGED. He had former coaches and players vouching for him. Tom Brady called Khan to vouch for him! Pederson didn't even get a second interview until recently. It's just complete and utter disrespect. Pederson was available a month ago. Why go radio silence, ignore everyone, and then literally force Leftwich to withdraw himself because you're too much of a chickenshit to tell him no lol

 

Would've rather had Bisaccia. Pederson is a good coach. He's going to play himself into Baalke having job security and Khan being validated.

 

You can support the coaching candidate and not support the way any of this happened haha

it’s also not just because he’s an ex Jag but because players fucking love him… and he’s just the total opposite of a coach who will fuck over a dude’s career because he dared to talk back in practice. He literally asks players about their bonuses and schemes for them to reach their goals.

and because I want a young black intelligent mind coaching our team in the midst of all this Flores shit coming out and the Rooney Rule being clearly a sham

on top of that, it’s not just Tampa, but everywhere he’s been, including when he was a back-up QB in his post-Jags career - he’s been commended for his attention to detail and consistent hyper-specific note taking and being an important voice in the film room. He took notes on what his quarterback likes, what his receivers like etc - and if a player disagrees with anything, he will write down the exact play on film and figure out a new way to approach that. His approach is very team oriented and not authoritarian and that just seems incredibly rare among coaches.

last but not least, I loved the balance of his play calling in Tampa. Very good mix of deep shots, inside and outside zone runs, and calculated wrinkles underneath. Maybe a lot of that is Brady and his offensive line checks but I don’t think Brady and Arians would gush about him if he wasn’t truly in charge of the game flow.

Please don’t confuse us saying it’s a good hire with us saying there isn’t rampant distinction throughout Jacksonville

Like if they were absolutely adamant on keeping Baalke then this is the best hire possible. It doesn’t make Khan not dumb for keeping Baalke but that’s not Doug’s fault and there are at least some positives on what it means to Lawrence which is really the only priority.

it was disrespectful as fuck to Leftwich who has done nothing but be humble and committed to the game, and show that he would honor being given this opportunity. And even if Doug does well, I will never get over that. We will never get another chance to hire him as long as Khan is owner.

 

I could tag and say the same thing to you hahah. But it takes a lot of disappointment to make me finally reach this stage where I can’t be hurt anymore than watching Meyer wreck this team

Doug has WON A SUPERBOWL we can’t sit here and say he’s a bad coach or something. He might be just an “okay” coach who peaked / overperformed one season but he knows what he’s doing. Way more than we could say for Bevell, Meyer, or Bissacia.
