  1. Steelers are so afraid of moving on they're going to delay the inevitable rebuild by 3-4 years idiots

Short of him just waiving his roster bonus, there's almost no world where they dont add 2-3 years to his deal. The cap savings are just too easy, and while the years beyond 2022 can be void years, odds are 2022 is gonna look similar to this year with a lower cap number (like $20-25mil)

Sorry when I'm mid-rant usually isn't a good time to get my attention about something else :-p

After reviewing the data, I must conclude that it certainly heavily favors your argument, and I agree that your approach is the most savvy value choice for a team. However, I think in the case of a non-abuser Ezekiel Elliott, or a CMC, or a Henry etc... the rare E L I T E runningback is worth that second contract.

That said, Leonard Fournette was nowhere close to that and idk why I was so biased that he could be for awhile.

Am I hearing this properly? You can't legitimately think of one reason you'd be biased? Fournette was good, but the risk of taking a running back that high that ends up as "Just another guy" is too high considering you can get those guys later.

Hahaha I think I was actually more biased toward him because I loved his college tape.

I don’t develop bias for Jags players that I wasn’t high on before the draft haha. It’s only the ones I loved as prospects before we even drafted them.

Gotta tell ya, even Zeke and CMC are showing the signs. Zeke posted career lows in year 5, and yes I know he didn't have Dak, but the fact that you need a good QB to be a good RB shows just having a good QB makes any RB serviceable. And CMC spent most of year 4 on the shelf. He's certainly not "washed" but i wouldn't be surprised if injuries are a problem moving forward haha

Henry is the special one, but he started off his career splitting carries so maybe that lessened the impact for the first few years?

yes one of my favorite sleepers. I feel like his lack of hype is like “undersized” but being short helps him, he has a low center of gravity.

He’s not small. He’s stocky and very powerful and also changes directions with no loss in fluidity.

  11. Henry also benefits from facing the Jags and Texans 4x a year lol

yeah this is why I’ve been very calm about it. Nothing really to be worried about as far as Lawrence as an individual player. It would be a huge failure of the Jags as an organization to take THAT skillset and not end up with at least a top 20 NFL quarterback.

  16. For the last couple years I’ve always argued Carter over Williams. But this past season Williams made it kinda hard to keep saying that haha but it still wouldn’t surprise me at all if Carter ends up being better.

This actually kind of makes the argument to take a RB in the first round (but not in the top 10), weirdly enough. 5 years at fairly cheap prices, and if you want, 2 years of franchise tags at cheaper than long-term deal prices. You can get like 7yrs total at ~$30-40mil total with an easy out anywhere from Year 4-7.

And Bell just showed that sitting a year isnt really worth it as a RB

just listened to the latest episode from the Dolphins podcast I listen to (3 Yards per carry) that clearly has sources/connections in the organization....a couple of notes:

    - they don't think Aaron Jones gets $14-15 million/year...they said what they hear, its more likely to be in the $10-11 million/year range but of course a bidding war could always ensue
    - they think its more likely that Miami takes a RB at 18 (mentioned Najee AND Javonte Williams) than it is they pay Aaron Jones in free agency...but they would not be surprised by either
    - Aaron Jones' agent is Drew Rosenhaus who is Miami based and is a Dolphins fan

That honestly was kinda my takeaway too. If you feel you're a RB away, go nuts and just grind every yard out of that first contract and then be good with that.

sucks for the actual players who play runningback though :(

    The rivalry is back on

There’s a different argument though that, relative to other positions, the dropoff is smaller than most between first round production and later round production at the RB position

  22. I'd like to see the numbers on this. I feel like we see a lot of OL, TE, DB, and even LBs that are either undrafted or later rounds have good careers. RBs have the spotlight more often so it's more obvious.

I kinda agree, I did a little research on it. Here are the guys in the top 25 rushers all time NOT picked in the first round.

    3. Frank Gore
    6. Curtis Martin
    16. Thurman Thomas
    20. Corey Dillon
    22. LeSean McCoy
    24. Ricky Watters

Edit: There are 7 more in the top 50. So that's 13.

So, for what it's worth, 44/50 of the top rushers of all time were drafted in the first two rounds.
