Assuming they can get teams to agree to trades that dont take affect until after June 1st for some of these, I can get the Saints under the cap (with space to sign draft picks) by:

    Restructure
    Kamara, Lattimore, Lutz

    Extend
    Davenport

    Trade (pre 6/1
    Onyemata, Ramczyk

    Trading (post 6/1)
    Thomas, Jordan, Davis, Peat

Cutting (post 6/1, I believe you can designate two normal cuts as this)
    Malcolm Jenkins

If they can somehow get someone to agree to a post 6/1 trade of Ramcyzk and Peat, I can get the Saints about $20mil in cap space in 2022. They can probably keep one of those traded players if they instead cut a bunch of $1-2mil contract guys, but I dont know enough about the Saints to know who is good and isnt at that level. But like, dumping Ingram saves them $2mil for example

My god, 43 million watched that Chiefs/Bills game. It peaked at nearly 52 million...meaning 1 in 6 people in the country were watching it. And even Bengals/Titans (two tiny market teams in a less ideal time slot) drew 30+ million.

Saints might as well blow it up. Teams are allowed to designate only two players as post-June 1st cuts/trades. MT and Cam Jordan would offer them $30.8m if designated as post-June 1st cuts/trades, but they are so fucked so I don't know what they are going to do to save money. It's not good!

lol. Watching this press conference and the only similarities between Payton and Kevin James are that they're white.

    The rivalry is back on

how long does it take to have a sticky fan base after entering a city?

as a recent transplant, I’m kinda at:
    - NFL: sticky on the Colts, can’t imagine flipping but maybe it’d happen gradually or if the Colts did something especially fucked up? Seahawks probably replace the Falcons as a de facto second favorite team
    - MLB: ditto for the Braves but the Mariners are as good as any as far as having a preferred AL team
    - NHL: not having an Atlanta team and getting in on the ground floor with the Kraken probably makes them the easiest sell, but even still, I’ve watched one game of theirs and attended zero
    - NBA: RIP Sonics
    - NCAA: I can’t imagine a reason why I’d ever root for UW or Wazzou as an alum of a prominent sports school

if you have a bunch of people like me for different NFL teams in the LA market, it feels like that’d have to be like a 30 year process until you actually start to have people who started sticky on them and then also have money to spend

    The rivalry is back on

actively invested in the team as opposed to passively invested

will follow the team when they’re bad as opposed to just “oh sure this is fun because they’re doing well and are here”

    etc

its not about time it’s about how long it takes the team to have its first success

Jags have an incredibly “sticky” fan base, that despite being absolutely STARVED for success the last 15 years or so, is still burning fat reserves from playoff success in the late 90s and mid 2000s.

Tons of transplants like me have moved in and out of Jax and stayed Jags fans out of pure nostalgia… when you’re from a town that isn’t known for anything aside from the Navy and Budweiser and then your brand new expansion team puts Jacksonville on the map by beating legendary coaches and players in route to 4 early winning seasons, it kinda etches a nostalgic sentimentality into your brain about the team

I legit know so many people from Jax who remain die hards despite us basically never having this dynamic and its a very young franchise still

The people who don’t care, never cared even when we were good

In this same vein, people didn’t give a fuck about Tampa until they won a SB in 2002 even though they’d been around for 23 years before that
