I don’t see what’s wrong with playing until one team doesn’t score in the playoffs. It’s the Playoffs and shouldn’t be decided by a coin toss. You can say defense all you want but obviously the Chiefs defense didn’t do jack shit to win that game last night lol

I've always thought the easiest way for OT was each team gets a possession. If both teams or neither team scores, start taking alternating sudden death field goals that move back 10 yards per attempt. First to miss loses.

Yes, I say that as a Ravens fan as they'd never lose in OT again haha

I agree with @Fucking Dustin that they’ll never extend overtime for broadcasting reasons…. and that just because we would assume short OT is for player safety and the NFL are hypocrites for extending the season, doesn’t mean that’s their actual reason for short OT

I also agree with @EntryLevelDave saying this isn’t a thing, if the Bills didn’t try to call prevent defense against the best big-play offense in the NFL, who still had 3 timeouts at the end of the fourth. That right there WAS Buffalo’s defense being given a chance. You only give up half a field in 13 seconds if your play calling fucking sucks. Prevent defense is only good if they have no timeouts in that situation and can’t use the middle of the field, only throw deep and to the sidelines. They had the middle of the field available because they could still stop the clock… and the Bills straight up gave Kelce and Hill the space to get in field goal range


However, where I agree with the other side is: it’s the playoffs. Playoffs should have different OT rules imo because it actually matters a lot more. There’s also fewer games so there should not be scheduling conflicts… just put the games 30 more minutes apart

I’m absolutely fine with the current OT rules for regular season - especially since, as we’ve seen ALL season, it’s actually not that common for the coin toss winning team to score a TD right away! (this is a point I haven’t seen one person bring up.) We’ve had way more ties & dragged out overtime victories than instant ones since they changed it from sudden death FG to sudden death TD.

But in the playoffs, shit. I don’t even want to spoon feed one team by saying “you each get one chance, fair and square”. No, just play a full 10 minute period and whoever manages to score more and/or eat up the most clock to prevent the other team from scoring wins. That’s how you incorporate all sides of the game and decide a fully determined victor
