Yeah and it's dumb to not just like, use ALL the information there is

Why only try to use part of what's there?

We can all agree though that the worst type of person is the one that uses ESPNs stat page as their entire argument

It was a tough day for the analytics community when the Browns, a team clearly rooted in analytics, gave Nick Chubb an extension this past summer lol

I think the deal is pretty damn good for the Browns. Chubb is on the books for just $5.2m this year before he's due $14.85m next year. If they want to get out of that contract, they cut him to save $6.85m (although it'd be $8m in dead cap), or they could designate him as a post-June 1 cut and spread that hit over 2023 and 2024. If Chubb plays well this year and next and they still want out on the final year of his deal, they can cut him in 2024 to save $12.2m

I'm normally not on team "Give Your RB a Big Extension," but Chubb rules and the extension he got is team-friendly. I mean, I can't believe the Cowboys did the deal with Zeke that they did in 2019. Browns just running laps around the Cowboys in that department lol

Here’s what I’d like to propose. Let’s organize the first mock now and hold off on it until the Super Bowl. That way I have more time to know who I should start digging into. Thoughts?

I feel the same way about PFF. Love to see a free agent article that says "Player X wasn't having a good career before landing on his most recent team. He had a career high 83.5 PFF and could be a good fit on a team in need of a player with the same position as player X."

Like, what the fuck does that even say? Where is the context? You think I'm dumbing this down, but they genuinely will write short blurbs like that on a player sometimes and I'm left wondering what the point of it was.

If we do mocks, I am most interested in doing the Eagles and Chargers tyvm

Yeah it's truly ridiculous lol. I appreciate their data collectors but that's it

Yeah, I enjoy when they collect data on things like missed tackles forced per attempt, pressures, pass deflections, etc. Don't really care for overall grades or their WAR metrics or whatever. I think they have some good arguments as far as team-building and game management goes, but I also think they could benefit from more film arguments, which is why I like the work Diante Lee and Seth Galina do for them because they usually will mesh the two arguments together for their takes. Trevor Sikkema obviously has a background in film from his time with The Draft Network as well so I'm hoping they start going more in that direction rather than "Well, according to the metrics, Kirk Cousins and Jimmy G are among the best QBs in the league, but they aren't worth the money they're being paid!" because no shit

Yeah I’m obviously always looking to do the Pats but it’s fun digging into like wtf do the giants need so I like taking on random teams too.

    The rivalry is back on

the ESPN stat page is underrated for assessing historical performance/what actually happened IMO. Not as good for projecting future performance and there are things to take with a grain of salt, but it’s the same kind of argument for why batting average and ERA are good baseball metrics

There are times, like any time this thread tries to argue that Kirk Cousins is actually bad or worse than *insert mediocre or bad QB here*, where pulling up his recent stat lines and citing just how many times Kirk Cousins has bested someone else’s career years is more than sufficient and the subjective “yeah but he doesn’t pass my eye test” is a much worse argument than the ESPN stat argument

    But Kirk Cousins is suk

Would love to see the public perception of Kirk Cousins if he was making the type of money that Carr ($19.9m), Stafford ($23m), Wentz ($28.3m), and Jimmy G ($27m) are making instead of the $45m he's owed this year lol

I don't know if this is much of a comparison, but from an uneducated eye guess - would you take Cousins or Tannehill?

This is so tough, but I'm gonna go with Tannehill simply because he's more athletic and is owed a little less than Cousins this year

If you take contract out of it, I'm still going Tannehill just for his legs, but it's close

Lol it’d be funnier if you at least warned 29.

    The rivalry is back on

If I think I can get 2020 Tannehill back, I’d pick him

But I think Cousins is safer and my gut is that Cousins’ skill set will age better, so I’d probably go with him
