Good morning to everyone who doesn’t have to watch Aaron Rodgers play football for another 7-8ish months at least :)

  4. I’m convinced people just use JLC to gain leverage by feeding him all kinds of BS.

I was at this game. I remember actually becoming a bigger Rodgers / Davante Adams fan at the time because of how many tight window CLUTCH throws I saw that day.

fuck Aaron. And any of these shitty-person football players who make you feel stupid for praising them because of their skill in a game

And it’s exactly why @tkamB still thinks he’s good because he loves advanced metrics :crylaugh: (just fucking with you dude)

I should probably be less critical of them since data science and data analytics is a big part of my future career field.

But that said the fact that player strategy changes every play, and there are so many contextual factors that can range from “that player fucked up” to “that player is not responsible for that and did a good job staying disciplined”; that it’s really hard to accurately measure football skill based on quantifiable metrics alone.

And then there’s just straight up irresponsible data metrics like RAS score during the draft, which give anyone who jumps 39” or more a 9.9+ score even though that’s definitely not top one percentile when people have jumped 40-46” at least every other draft - at that point your ratio / scale is misleading and doesn’t accurately illustrate how rare a skill is

I'm not sure that's how RAS works either

RAS is cool as a relative metric — 8.5 isn’t necessarily “better” than someone with a 7.5 at the same position, but it easily visualizes the differences in size/testing performance between someone who scored an 8 and someone who scored a 3

Advanced QB metrics are generally good to quantify things that the counting metrics don’t or may underweight and/or to project “expected” outcome to be a better indicator of future performance

PFF grades (and most things that site puts out in general) are writer opinions put into a numeric form and should be treated as such and not as any sort of actual advanced stat

I am of the belief that people should use both film and advanced metrics during player evaluation (among other factors that fans are not privy to). Not exactly a groundbreaking statement, but football doesn't need to be so black and white. There are strict film grinders on websites and Twitter who are absolute assholes just like there are some analytics people who are absolute assholes. Those people are often the ones I've seen making black and white assertions about players/coaches/teams and it's just such boring analysis.
